I have been here for 2 years and I am not sure if I can stay what is “Nike Magic”. What made us so successful, both with employees and consumers? I have read the books and archives about Nike but I genuinely want to know, what was it about Nike culture that made us who we are (or were). Anyone been here longer than 4 years who can share what is (or was) Nike Magic?

The Nike magic is the chat during the last all employee meeting.
Working for a company made successful by a bunch of straight white males , that is now populated with people who despise straight white males… that’s truly magical
I like how people relive the past with rose colored glasses. My past 15 years at Nike was “just get it done”, dictated by LT to follow their direction blindly even if we have concerns. When the program fails, highlight only the positives and ignore the negatives, then have a celebration with tons of alcohol to mask the mistakes further.
I question why I stick around other than maybe I’m in love with the abusive relationship with the culture. Maybe it’s like all those victims of domestic violence that believe things will get better, sometimes they do… but a lot of the times they dont.
NikeTech made me realized everyone was in it for themselves all along, and if you advance yourself quick enough, maybe there is a chair for you after the music stops.
Thank god I’m years separated from that department. But my PTSD is still very strong remembering each micro, hot head, and inept manager I worked for.
I really really hope you aren’t in tech.
Obviously we sacrifice the first born children of our ETW's in the secret ritual chamber under the lake.
There’s been a shift in my experience to ticket taking over collaboration. In order to go talk to another team, I have to submit a ticket for it to be “prioritized” based on some vague notion of value. I think the magic was a willingness and ability to work with one another.
@pdk+1rwvCpLj Oh, so your job miraculously survived? Could it be because you're a woman, deemed indispensable, and your paycheck isn't hefty enough to warrant a pink slip? How fortunate for you. Maybe you should be thanking the company for its benevolent gender-based job security policies. Thanks for the insight, but we're done here.
Sounds like a bunch of corporate hogwash , every company has this storied fine where they were great and you’re just constantly chasing that “greatness” but you’ll never reach it because it’s the rat race we call life . Our Nike magic could’ve been our resiliency to still provide best class service during the pandemic buttttt it’s not. The magic will be whatever they need it to be to keep your working
Lol. "None of this my fault, they must hate my va---a"
Sure buddy. Sure. That's what it is.
"WHY would I be paid tens of thousands of dollars less than my less experienced male counterpart??"
Spoiler alert - it's not because you're a female. Playing victim is a great way to avoid personal responsibility.
"It's not me that's the problem, it's everyone else!"
Nike was once a company where camaraderie extended far beyond the office walls. It was a culture where spending time together outside of work was not just encouraged, but celebrated. Teams frequently step out of the office environment, bonding through collaborative projects and shared experiences, reigniting their passion and energy to pursue ambitious goals. The energy pulsating within the buildings on campus was palpable even from the parking lot, a testament to the passion and dedication of its employees. This sense of unity and shared purpose fueled innovation and collaboration, making Nike not just a workplace, but a community where every individual felt valued and connected.
@xsj+1rwvCpLj: while your description is most assuredly many people’s experience, it’s not everyone’s and therein lies the problem. Tell me again WHY would I be paid tens of thousands of dollars less than my less experienced male counterpart?? Tell me again WHY would I not be paid the minimum of my job’s minimum salary? Tell me again WHY does Nike think their bad behavior can be glossed over by “some” people having a great experience working at Nike? Tell me again WHY is PK donating so much money while Nike’s legal team bullies ex-employees who are burned out, used up and thrown away. But that’s only some people’s experience and apparently these are not the ones that appear to count.
'Tis a dark magic, rife with the scent of spiders and decay from the black wells themselves.
None quite understand its deep inner workings, but we all agree. Something evil stirs within
Charismatic leadership delivered with sincere authenticity; challenging each to bring respectful irreverence to the status quo. Bold ambition coupled with an equal dose of inspired empowerment to deliver on what we now only dare say in hushed tones.
We were dared to be great, and in turn dared corporate leadership to stop us. It wasn’t the wild west. It wasn’t controlled chaos. It was harmonized greatness, with each function…each team…each sole… to be their best.
We never feared a lunch time game of soccer increasing the odds our name would end up on a list… for we delivered on outcomes. And that, is what mattered then.
That was the magic.
