Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

DW please

Is there anyone who likes the yearly hunger games?
Is Exxon so arrogant that it won’t change the process that is making it lose good people.
Is Management Committee so out of touch. Come on DW - humility is a leadership trait. This is bad process. PLEASE change it. I love this company and these people, give them a chance to win. Get rid of this 7 ways to segment people. Do the big 3. Big middle = Winning. Please

One thing I learned at xom is that managers select specific items to micromanage and provide input on so that they can take creds when it does well. They look for significant projects or efforts to wedge some input into the system then have you meet with them min once a month or put it in one note so they can regurgitate it to the uppers

It doesn’t matter if anyone listened to their pathetic useless input or if it actually did anything to to help.

Useless is the correct term

Imagine what our culture would be like if forced ranking was ended, evaluations were based on performance without sponsorship or “target distributions”, and jobs were allocated based on skills and interests rather than politics, with job postings to find the candidates.

They can’t change this. All the freelancers, so called fast trackers and most LT depend on this process. It would be like losing a benefit.

We do not promote people who push back.

Unlikely

Every person that has any influence to change forced ranking owes their rapid rise to false forced ranking and is bringing their favorite minions up through false forced ranking so see absolutely nothing wrong with the system.

Good intent but I don’t see this changing unless a great % of people are changed out as it needs a culture change. EM folks are trained to look at minutiae was make mountains out of molehills (just look at the lps process that wastes so much time every week…). This is the culture that created by decades of compliance to process and procedures…

Even if a new system is put in place, we will
Make it tedious and political and perception based rather than a true meritocracy
