Who gives you the package info your manager or HR

Is your manager who is giving you your package details? If you need to negotiate that, should you bring it up when he or she is sharing the bad news with you or you talk to HR?

`If your position is being eliminated, there is no handoff.
Q.E.D.`

Not necessarily. My position was eliminated, but my work was not. It was handed off to another person on my team as extra work for him. The level of work for my responsibilities were dwindling and were no longer 100% of a work week, and so were his. I got eliminated and he "inherited" my work along with his to make 100% utilization until those responsibilities could be completely phased out where he'd be LR'd in 2-3 yrs.

@1fow+1sKnutPN A good summary. Just be aware if anything makes it to court it will likely show up in the background checks companies have been doing for over a quarter century, and that may have an effect on your ability to get the next job.

@wqn+1sKnutPN A least in the past they'd try to force people below the director level to stay on to manage a hand off under very abusive terms and if you didn't agree to them you got nothing so there was strong incentive not to be too important to the company. The rest of us were happy just to get a package and go.

Your attorney will negotiate with Cisco legal. This is after you win your case of any wrongdoing by Cisco. I hope you have notes, screenshots, recorded phone conversations and a ton of money because Cisco will bury you in legal costs.

"Good luck w/ negotiating. You're gone. Why would they want to negotiate w/ you? What makes you so special? Are you offering to take less? They're certainly not going to give you more. And unless you're a Director or higher, where they may want to have some time to do an orderly hand off to your successor, they'll bring up the negotiations, not you."

Well that depends on your situation.
There must be a reason why I have been recording all my calls for the last few years.

As a Director, I did not have the ability to see the packages given to my team, even my directs, in the Feb. LR.

Your manager doesn't even know what the package is. They just provide the short 1:1 message your job is eliminated. After that, everything comes from the workplace HR team.

BS. The person, usually your manager, reads the prepared script that HR gave them to read to you. Then they hand over the termination paperwork. That paperwork has all the details. Whether or not they've read the package to see what the details are, or even checked to make sure that all the printed pages are there is up to that manager. My manager was familiar w/ the details and was willing to summarize it for me or leave it to me to read the package.

If this implies that the manager the director or the VP dont have a say in who gets LRed, this is complete B$

I think they are implying the opposite. How I read it, they were saying the decision could have come from somewhere else like the director or VP and not directly the manager.

They know, they decide, HR just validates the decision. It cant be any other way because otherwise the business would be impacted

Unsure if always the same. When I had to layoff someone HR provided training, sent the pkg and was available if any questions. I informed the person of the decision, which was also made somewhere else.
