In the event of mass layoffs and closings, employers should browse this page to understand their responsibilities to their workers….

If XOM manages to get out of paying "NJ WARN ACT" severance for Clinton employees then perhaps those employees should start contact an appropriate law firm as a group.

No relocation support and no compensation for Clinton, NJ employees. You are lucky to have a job given the level of engineering incompetence.

Outside of a select 2-3 people, no one from Sarnia will be relocated to Houston. But at least in Canada there are good rules around severance, and industry standard is 4 weeks/yr.

Be sure to check the latest relocation rules. Don’t be shocked to find out they were updated in May 2024 and were changed to be much less beneficial to those affected. At this point, I think the MC is just going full out war against the employees and will keep doing so until the headcount is where they want it. Its ok though, Darren keeps reading the scripts telling you how much the employees mean to him.

Relocation package not what they used to be, and more importantly, it is not easy to uproot your entire family and move to a different state.

Exxon Mobil Corp. plans to establish a single North American research and technology hub at its Houston headquarters, resulting in the closure of campuses in Clinton, New Jersey, and Sarnia in Ontario. The closures will affect about 700 employees, with the majority being offered roles in Houston, said Exxon spokeswoman Emily Mir.

Just ask the Fairfax people.

You had a choice to move to Houston or separate your employment.

  • Unless you were high enough up in the management pecking order and were given a wink wink 😉 and there were a number of them.

Folks, been there done that.
I'm not sure what the contract states for the union folks but everyone else will be offered a position and it will be up to you to make that decision. If they really want you, it will be a somewhat better deal than the one offered to someone they really don't need.
I would read all the rules associated with moving expenses before moving yourself and your family.
I believe they have changed immensely.
Best of luck to all of you.

You will be offered a position in Houston, you will be on you to cover house sale expenses and will generally make it a costly and miserable experience so you quit… there’s the loophole

1 week of pay for every year of service… that’s a lot of $$$ unless the labor lawyers find a loophole
