Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Clinton Resignations

How many people have already quit in the last few weeks and how many have made house hunting trips to the Houston area?

@3sgd. That will work well in the industry.

I see you have a Phd. But you work as a technician for 5+ years why is that? - Interviewer & HR
Because it was easier - Interviewee

Salary is 80k, etc - HR
It ain't enough - Interviewee

@3pbh There are lots of positions like this within the company including manufacturing sites. It’s mostly people that are not willing to move locations or take on roles with more responsibilities and pressure. Not that this is the wrong approach.

It should be really easy for Annandale techs to find jobs with similar pay. However, the workload will most likely be a lot more, like up 50% or double. Annandale tech workload is sooo light as many MTSs got pushed out while the union doesn't participate the annual pip. Many techs got nothing to do and just walk in circles

BTW, I know at least one tech has a PhD, but it is not related to her job description

@3yvy+1sSjg5Uw if they have "advance" degrees why are they technicians? Not advisors, engineers, or scientist?

For most technicians in CL - most having advanced degrees in physical sciences and/or engineering - there are many very competitive job providers in the Mid-Atlantic.
More competitive by far.
Not penny-pinching subsidized tunnelers with 100 year old facilities, btw.

Much more opportunity than in the land of bluebonnets starring alone.

Good luck with finding outside employment that would pay commensurately. Unless it’s another major, it’s difficult.

I've spoken with ten of my colleagues about this and all have confirmed to me that they won't be relocating to Houston. Many are RE so they'll retire and a few will keep milking this company as long as possible and eventually resign. Also check out the LinkedIn profiles of the Clinton employees and you'll see many with the Open to work sign. No more than 50 people will relocate to Houston and most of them will be PIPed within a year or two.

Quitting requires a person to have another job lined up. I doubt it
