If one decides to take the VSP I'm wondering if they will qualify for unemployment. I know unemployment are mainly for those that get fired or have an involuntary however with one deciding and make the choice to leave and take the package will they actually get the unemployment

- Been through a layoff with severance before and I was not eligible for unemployment due to the severance payout. NC unemployment takes into account the $$ paid.
Google is your friend. The short answer is because you were solicited for termination, you should be able to collect unemployment benefits. Additionally, severance pay is not factored into unemployment.
I found a few websites where there are online employment attorneys in Illinois who can confirm/deny based on your situation. They are free so pose the question.

UI is reviewed on case by case basis in IL. Your position is being eliminated because of reduction in workforce. Although, it is positioned as voluntary separation. What happens if there are no volunteers? There will be reduction, regardless.
From personal experience, you will most likely be able to collect unemployment until you obtain other employment.
