If Intel had half the employees, then half the execs would lose their empires.
Many directors, VPs (and their "advisors", "TAs") etc would lose their jobs.
So why would they lay off people form their empires?!
You are dreaming, revenue is dropping with no end in sight. Costs need to be cut not remain the same. A more likely scenario is for half the employees and the remaining are kept at 75% of their current comp. Benefits have been getting whittled away for years and they won't come back. You will eventually get to base salary and mediocre healthcare with you paying a much larger share of the premiums as the only compensation. You will be glad to be getting it or you will leave which works too.
