Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Scheduled vacation when layoff hits

I heard that there will be significant layoffs coming soon in my department with the jobs going to India. I’m scheduled for vacation soon. Does anyone know what happens if you are on vacation when the layoff hits?

Dude… getting laved off as you go on vacation is the dream. Rest up, get tanned and ready and use the year of Sub on a relaxing no pressure job search.

You have hit the lottery my friend

You just need to avoid your boss if you don't want to get terminated. I saw George do it on Seinfeld so I know it works.

I was laid off one day before vacation and three weeks before I would have been eligible to keep my 401k match.

If you are notified before or while you are on vacation, they change those vacation days to working days. However, since they no longer pay out unused pto, it doesn’t really matter.

I was laid off rigggggghhhht before I headed to Hawaii for 12 days.
Stunned. Never would have imagined it would be me; I did so much and loved it there.
But my 401K match was about to vest very shortly (down to weeks); I think that's what did it.

What a send off!

So you had a bad experience with the bank in the past but since layoffs have been exceedingly low others should su-k it up and deal with bad experiences? Get a fu--ing life troll

Please point out even one single solitary example where I’ve ever defended BNYM. You can’t because I’ve never posted a single pro-Bank post.

I did earn quite a bit of money from business deals with the Bank, and other banks. Not so much when I worked for them though. That’s how I got smart and never depended upon an employer again.

I don’t give a darn about the BK stock price. I’ve never held a single share in BK, but did hold some MEL options way back in the 1999.

If anyone here thinks that 42 is a company man, then you truly have reading comprehension issues. Would have thought that my two bio posts had settled that long ago. Ray Norda of Novel used to call it “Coopetition”.

And that my friends is exactly what I did for 42 years.

@2tau, 401(k) matches have always been invested in the same as your contributions.
It has NEVER been in BK stock unless that's where you chose. No wonder you had to work so long.

I don’t know why we even bother responding to the poster(s) making all the paranoia, lowest level of layoffs, and University of Phoenix comments (very possibly all made by the same person). That poster could really use the mental health visits being offered by BNY Mellon. Just like the high school bully who obviously did not grow up at all after over 40 years working. Definitely must be compensating for something if the need is that great to try to bring down others.

You're contradicting yourself. A majority of these posts seems like you're defending the company until we come to the stock price. If you really are retired, it's time to step away from the computer and get outside!

Save you the trouble. Never put a cent into Bank stock and sold 401K matches as soon as allowed. Anyone who works here should ask themselves if they believe that BK is better than the average S&P 500 company. Hint… it’s not.

If you're sensing a layoff use your vacation days and load up your transportation card with any dunds in your account (if you use the Travel Benefit). These vacation days and reimbursement account funds are lost once terminated.

I saw 3 cases, they informed one day before vacation. Shut off your phone. Get bad news after vacation.

If you’re on the list and on vacation the day it happens, it’ll just happen the day you get back. Just take note if you get a random meeting request the day you return. That’s what happened to my coworker.

Should we start taking bets how much of 42's retirement fund is in BNY Mellon stock?

Imagine having a 42-year career under your belt, most always working two jobs and running your own business and still finding the time/desire to harass people (that are living through he-l) on a layoff board 24/7. What a life.

Tell that to the people in my department and elsewhere who had their employment terminated. In my department, it definitely had nothing to do with performance or non-compliance. All got termination benefits. No PIP because there was nothing that required improvement. It was a senior management decision to move the positions to India to cut costs.

In my location, we’ve gone from 3 buildings to 2 and now down to 1 half occupied building (and that’s if I’m generous with headcount here). But you just keep repeating the same thing. Like the Groundhog Day movie - we all know what to expect to hear from you. And it got boring a long time ago.

Layoffs have been so exceedingly low that it’s not worth a second to wonder.

What tactics are you talking about? My vacation was scheduled over 3 months ago and I just heard what’s coming down the pike for my small department. Ten percent were let go in November and another 10% targeted in the next layoff period. Anyone who left voluntarily was replaced with personnel in India. There is zero hiring for this location in any department and has been that way for a couple of years.

I am definitely not paranoid. It was simply a question that you don’t have an answer for but for some reason you felt you had to throw in your standard comment. I have no idea if I’d even be on the list but was curious in case it did happen. We are not in a “growth” location and all signs point to this location closing in the not too distant future. Anyone who doesn’t see that is not being realistic.

You might be getting laid off before your vacation. Still you should go and enjoy it!

Yeah, don’t answer the phone or attend any meetings while you are on vacation. Also, take home any personal things you may have at the office before you go (just to be safe).
