Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Location Tracking COUs

Welp. Just left a meeting with my director. Newest add to the presence reports is using the location tracking on our COUs.

So many trolls. You can literally go see the presence report training document on hr one stop right now. It’s all there in writing.

The report was updated 5/1 but there is no cou tracking. Utter hogwash

That is true. The presence reports have changed, for sure. COU tracking is a metric and there would be reasond for it between badge swipes, LAN and Wifi tracking.

I’d leave it in the office with one of the lockers and if I’m asked about it, I’ll say - “you want me in the office, therefore I only use my COU when I’m at the office. I work 9-5 in the office now apparently therefore I leave my COU in the office since that’s where I work. Once I leave the office I don’t need my COU and won’t be contacted”

thats ok, somebody out there needs your job

That isn't true. The presence reports have changed, for sure. But COU tracking isn't a metric and there would be no reason for it between badge swipes, LAN and Wifi tracking. Your supervisor is not a very good one to lie to you for no reason.

"Would love to be a fly on the wall for the meeting management has with "I don't use my COU people". We're a communications company. That alone should tell them enough and be grounds for dismissal."

Ugh... well, this "communications company" has never even supplied me with a COU in the 10 years that I've worked here, so there is that...

Btw, I’ve talked to people and this is hogwash.
T isn’t going to be able to reliably track time, period. And if they do, they will find they probably have BARELY 30% compliance rate.

The reports struggle to maintain 70%-80% compliance with the 3 days in, factor in some time restrictions and other nonsense, it’ll plummet to 20%-30% (boomers) compliance.

They can’t fire 80% of all office employees, so fu-k it.

“telling everyone how productive you are, with your better than office setup, because you have 2 40" monitors and a gaming chair.”

2 40 inch monitors is better than what’s in the office though?
Especially if you’re a developer, screen real-estate is gold.

My setup at home is significantly better than what’s offered in office and I’m many times more productive at home than I am in office (as a developer) I go to the office, I usually don’t do hardly anything, tbh vs at home where I actually write most of my PR’s, etc.
This also goes back to actually having our own space in-office.
You can’t even pay for your own gear due to the shared spaces - so you end up with sub-par junk that is designed to fit as many use-cases and different configurations as possible, vs the best configuration for your job and system.

It’s many problems stacked on top of problems that makes working here significantly more miserable than it was before.

"We should allow work from home so I can coach my kid's soccer team and work on my house."

You forgot shopping at Costco at work hours. Get a $1.99 hot dog or a slice of pizza on the way out for lunch at home. You are doing a "working lunch" on a call telling everyone how productive you are, with your better than office setup, because you have 2 40" monitors and a gaming chair.

“Yes, I expect you will be able to, but subsequent phases to the presence reporting will be to identify employees doing this. While it may be true there will still be gaps, the noose is tightening and as more employees are let go for presence violations the word will spread. Take into account employees will grow increasingly dissatisfied and they will turn in those they are still not following the rules.”

We will see, curious how they will track time in office for people without COU’s and Windows machines.

F00LS! We are not a communications company. Otherwise, we’d let employees work from home with the network that union employees and all the laid off engineers built. We are a magic shop, we have tons of discounted smoke and mirror tricks.

All well and good, but it still amazes me that with such a high percentage of contractors, they are not required to RTO and collaborate with the rest. I know, RTO is not about collaboration, but it is so blatantly obvious what the motive is. Even if in their minds execs believe it is about collaboration how can they ignore the contractors? It says a lot about the execs inability to lead.

“Would love to be a fly on the wall for the meeting management has with "I don't use my COU people". We're a communications company. That alone should tell them enough and be grounds for dismissal.”

Teams has made the COU pointless for many individual contributor jobs. Why do I need to bring a COU to the office when all of my calls are through teams? I haven’t had someone call me on my COU directly in years.

We aren’t supposed to answer the phone while driving either so what purpose does it serve?

What a crock. The report tracks badge swipes and badge swipes alone. CRE tracks LAN use but that data is not used for anything on the HWWW na-i page.

“Perhaps a better choice of words should have been slight rule changes and stricter enforcement. I don’t have it in front of me now. If you are following the rules, no real change. Nothing too bad, it should come out in the weekly (or whatever the frequency is) updates that HR regularly sends out to people that manage people. The fact T is spending so much time and money on this is an indication they are no longer going to play around. The noose is tightening ever so slowly….the days are numbered for the non swipers, you will be swiping, or should I say wiping yours with a pink slip.”
