Thread regarding IBM layoffs

100 years of IBM

http://www.tikalon.com/blog/blog.php?article=2024/IBM_100

The article highlights IBM's remarkable longevity compared to the typical ten-year lifespan of most companies.
Founded in 1911 and renamed IBM in 1924, the company thrived under the leadership of Thomas John Watson Sr. and later his son. IBM pioneered many technological advancements, including the first large-scale electronic computer, magnetic disk storage, and the IBM System/360 mainframe series. It also led in patents, reflecting ongoing innovation. IBM's adaptability has allowed it to continue focusing on services, software, and research, distinguishing it from shorter-lived companies.

@vka+1st7JCRV This has been IBM's major problem for decades...they were more interested in fast cash than actually conducting business, and so they slowly sold off the company in pieces.

If you had a nice house, would you sell off your family jewels and treasured heirlooms at a garage sale? No, you wouldn't? Well, IBM's management certainly would...because that's what they did! They've been doing it for damn near 40 years.

So no real evidence of the purported prior to IBM Thomas conviction?

The rise and stagnation of IBM - the company future is dark and getting darker every day. All the Indian H1B visa holders and crooked executives from AK and progressing through JA, JW, RT, DN, JK, JG are not going to save the company from it's abject and disastrous failures, bloated bureaucracy and lack of innovation. The company is not ahead in AI and their slim margin in Quantum computing will evaporate as Microsoft and Google catch up quickly. IBM is NOT the most the most ethical tech company either, contrary to what JA once stated publicly. But they will continue feeding the employees the poison Kool-Aid on the w3 intranet. They can run but they cannot hide. Check out the link...

it looks like ibm and at&t missed out on new tech waves because they didn't see a market for them or the money wasn't enough to bother. they were more about keeping their spot in the market, not making new ones. they also kind of assumed that because they were the big names, people would stick with them just because it was easy.

Technically, the name IBM has been in use for 100 years, but the company itself was established 110 years ago.
