Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

MGO presence email

So sitting in the basically empty office on Teams calls like always and get this lovely Friday afternoon tu-d from leadership.

“With your leadership, we’ve made great progress managing through this change for many and in creating thriving work environments.”

“We believe that being together is the most efficient and effective path to building the types of trusting relationships that set the stage for high performing teams. Our vision for MGO is just that - to be a high-performing team where each of us is doing the best work of our lives, AT&T is winning in the marketplace, and MGO is an unstoppable engine for AT&T’s success.”

Rest of it was just reiterating the 3 day stuff even for holiday weeks etc. I’m sure there will be a sea of collaboration July 3 and 5 while everyone is off. Same for Thanksgiving week and the like. No mention of tracking hours though.

Everything done in this group in the last year has undermined trust and ensured that we are not able to do the best work of our careers by any stretch. The RTO cr-p is only one part of the stupidity. There is plenty more to go around.

Easiest way to tell this is complete BS is “We believe”. That’s how Stankey kicked this off last year. No facts, no data, just pulling sh-t out of their as--s and calling it caviar. If we’re truly a world class marketing team we could at least make the lies a little more convincing.

“Now we have to endure 3 days of this stupid a-s conference on early June”

This boondoggle is ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as the consultant-driven internal “agency” that has made every project 3x more annoying and forced out a number people who at least had some understanding of the business in place of people who have no clue.

But we’re going to be world class!

MGO is a sh-t show. I hate this org so much. I saw that du----s email and the little math equations showing the various combinations of PTO & holidays against how many days you are expected in the office.

Now we have to endure 3 days of this stupid a-s conference on early June. Millions spent on hotel rooms for everyone, food, and flights for employees outside of Dallas but budgets are tighter than the girdle of plus sized preacher’s wife. And we are laying people off. We have money for this BS conference.

Totally waste of money and time. I’m praying I catch some communicable disease before hand - pink eye, covid, bubonic plague. I’ll take anything to avoid this time wasting event.

“Failure to comply will lead to immediate termination. Two weeks severance is all that is allowed. Miss one RTO and you can WFH permanently without pay.”

I’ve never had a month where I met all the RTO requirements, got my bonus ($20k+), still employed, coffee badge regularly, generally give 0 fu--s, talk sh-t on the company all day, got an extension to relocate etc.

What you gotta say about that?

Here’s the thing tho, I perform my work really really well, and work in a mission critical org.

I’m leaving to go to Microsoft tho, fu-k this company - I hate upper management they’re a bunch of bozos.

"If I could work from home 2 days a week I’d celebrate every day for a month."

I suppose if you had skills that allowed it, you'd have a lot to celebrate. Try not to wreck the company's work truck, OK?

"Wfh is being phased out."

AT&T is being phased out. By stupidity and mismanagement.

After being surplussed for, “failure to follow”, former employees will be able to work seven days a week from home, no more 3 day RTO mandates. They can sign their own checks and make their own rules and exceptions, easy fix.

“Wfh is being phased out.

We’ll see how long that lasts.

Plenty of places are hiring remote.

Then go to school and get a job where you can work from home?

I stopped reading the daily gaslighting emails a long time ago.

The office rules are only a part of this. There has been a huge amount of disruption beyond RTO and layoffs and none of it has made doing our jobs easier, helped improve output or created anything resembling trusting relationships. However, there has been no shortage of fluff and BS trying to make it sound different.
