They want me to be doing face to face collaborating when I'm in the office, which means I am not typing things on my computer. They are mutually exclusive.

I occasionally rest my left middle finger on my forehead when working on the company laptop.

Ridiculous. There are several apps that simply take a periodic photo from the selfie camera. It's the most unobtrusive way to get the "I'm being watched" feel of being in the office without having to commute. No need to monitor keystrokes when modern tech lets you see your employees.

Every business laptop now comes with a slide to close the selfie camera.

"Many of them had worked for Wells Fargo for less than five years."

Hmmm, I thought we old farts were the problem, according to the young, hard workers that say they are so productive working remotely.

“I'm pretty sure most people just use the Teams join your own meeting hack to avoid idling.”
This will be one the next surveillance detection inputs.

AI is an abomination.

It doesn't take an AI to detect someone pushing the F15 key.

Also, I'm pretty sure most people just use the Teams join your own meeting hack to avoid idling.

Sure it wasn't, "Stimulation," anticipating simulation of some adult activity.

How about fire the managers who can't tell whether their employees are working without the help of IT surveillance? Productivity is not hard to measure.

Some large companies have been using increasingly sophisticated tools to monitor employees since remote work expanded during the Covid pandemic.
Such services can track keystrokes and eye movements, take screenshots and log which websites are visited.
But tech has also evolved to evade the surveillance , including so-called "mouse jigglers", aimed at making computers appear to be in active use, which are widely available.
According to Amazon, where they can be found for less than $10, thousands have been sold in the last month.
In the filings, Wells Fargo said staff had resigned or been fired "after review of allegations involving simulation of keyboard activity creating impression of active work".

I don’t mind new technology and products but the nanny state and AI is very concerning. Of course the scammers in the article needed to be disciplined or even fired. The issue with everything being recorded and micro-managed all the time doesn’t leave any room for grace or mercy, the second chance,or paint the real picture of a compentent and dedicated employee. Data can make someone look like the worst in the world but in reality that employee could be going above and beyond but just working outside the nanny state monitoring systems. For instance, I may be on a certain task or ticket but am pulled in all other kind of directions handling other emergencies or issues that suddenly pop up. It appears I wasn’t productive on that ticket or task but in reality, I handled several issues while on said ticket or task. Multi-tasking.

This is the type of behavior where AI can make a big impact in the future. Just imagine a computer system that can browse through thousands if not millions of keystrokes quickly and efficiently.
