I will not wait to be laid off. I started looking into other job opportunities, and several options opened up, including in smaller companies. I realized that I would prefer a smaller place, even if it means lower pay. Working in these big companies which are as a rule not managed well, in a toxic environment, while having the ax constantly swinging around your head, became so pointless. I want to do better with my life.

if you do not have the latest tech skills or good networking, dont take the VSP, as you will struggle to look for a comparable job after VZ. If your buddy can help you landing a new job, take the VSP and enjoy extra load of money for your kid college expenses or payoff your mortgage.

Verizon would flunk DEI. What % of RIFs since 2018 were Indian? 0? What % of new hires were Indian? 80+? What % of promotions were Indian? 80+.

Verizon has been a cr-p hole from 2003 on. It’s too consumed with DEI and not running a business.

I mean, that sounds like you’re being proactive, but you’re trying to take control over something you don’t have any control over.
Leaving a company now won’t make you any safer at any other company. You don’t have some kind of moratorium on laying you off at the new job because you recently jumped ship.
Verizon lays off. So does AT&T, Google, Microsoft, and Meta. You have just a good of chance staying on at Verizon as you do anywhere else.
