I took a package earlier this year. In today’s mail, I received a letter from Verizon. It stated that they made a mistake on my last payroll and that they overpaid me by $1,400.
They asked for a cashier’s check within 30 days so they can ‘close’ my file and report proper earnings to the IRS.
What do you think I should do?

Dear HR, this did not happen. The State does not makes mistakes. Individuals make mistakes, then spread falsehoods about the State in order to stir anger and resentment. This individual needs counseling and time at a reeducation camp.
Dear HR, not a troll. This happened.
Ah jeez, did it again, Troll poster:)
If you have received everything you expect from Verizon, close the bank account into which they deposited money (create a new account and move the money there). This way they can't attempt to connect from the current account on file.
Hold the mustard....you received a letter stating you were overpaid by $1,400. Well, you paid taxes in that so you also need documentation to provide the IRS so they can an adjustment.
Respond to the sending address, you believe you were underpaid by more than $5K.
Also ask them to provide complete documentation of their claim so your attorney can review.
sc--w them ,let them take you to court...lol
