Cigna Medicare here. What is the HCSC PTO policy? How many PTO days do you get? Do you get separate sick days? For my grade and years of service - Cigna currently gives us 28 total pto days for 10+ years of service. Use our PTO for sick days. If approved, short term disability after first 7 sick days. We can carry up to 56 hours of unused PTO over to 2025. We can use unearned PTO in advance to a certain limit. Thanks.

The PTO at HCSC is somewhat disappointing, but I have no complaints. Cigna did provide 27 days of PTO, with the option to purchase 5 additional days. And, yes, we were able to use PTO before it was earned. Also, for exempt employees, there was no need to take PTO if you were going to be out of your office for only a couple of hours.
Good grief, my PTO got cut in half.
HCSC (Blue Cross Blue Shields) PTO is the worst. You get 5 days a year to start. And can accrue 10 days through the year. You have an option to buy 5 days. All in all you get/ earn 15 days. Right over 2 weeks for a whole year is pathetic. The other bought five days doesn't even count cause you're paying for it. Can't believe I have lasted as long as I have here can't wait to quit 👎🏼
Wonder no more - TX plan President said today this was an austerity measure. Ge-z - thanks HCSC.
How many holidays do they give and what are they?
This is disappointing considering at Cigna, after ten years, you have 28 days with the ability to buy up to 5. You start off with 17, at 3 years, you get five additional.
HCSC offer of 10 PTO days for employees <5 yrs service is kinda low. Doesn’t compete well with most of the good Fortune 500 firms. I have seen some companies start with 10 PTO days but then jumps to 15 days after 1 year which is a decent compromise. But at HCSC you have to wait 5 years to earn 15 PTO days which is old relic policy.
Better yet consider moving to an Unlimited PTO policy.
in case others with different tenure are looking for more info:
as of next year, 5 well-being/sick days that can be used like normal pto, but are loaded at the first of the year, you will be able to carry over up to 80 hours of that pool from year to year but it is not paid out when you leave the company.
pto accrues per pay period, <5 years you get a total of 10 days per year; 5-9 years is 15 days; 10-19 years is 20 days; 20-29 years is 25 days; 30+ years is 27 days. senior professionals and managers accrue a few extra days when <5 years but over 5 years the accrual is the same for everyone. carryover is up to 16 hours and accrued time is paid out when you leave.
i have never heard of people being able to use unearned pto in advance (although you can schedule in advance for pto you'll have on the scheduled date). but having the well-being days loaded at the beginning of the year helps. std is available after 5 sick days i believe, but i could be off, it could be 7.
as the other person mentioned, they just reduced both time and carryover allotments and that's not the first time that has happened, unfortunately 🫠
HCSC sc--wed us on PTO. Be warned used to be a great company but their integrity is not as they preach.
At HCSC, somebody between 10 and 20 year of employment accumulates 20 days of PTO throughout the year and is given 5 sick days, which can also be used as normal PTO if wished. Also have the option to purchase up to an additional 5 days per year. These numbers are accurate as of now, but fair warning, they have removed PTO days in the past on multiple occasions.
