Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Layoffs …

Do you get a mass email or does your manager inform you one-on-one? Is there a typical day of the week it takes place? What is the package at Intel usually like?

In past layoffs I have seen where large conference rooms or parts of the cafe seating area are setup with high walled office style cubes and this is where the culling takes place. They are easier to secure. Your access to everything will be removed while you are in the meeting and you get walked to the exit at the end of the meeting. Because of WARN you will continue to get 60 days of pay and benefits. Any other severance is optional. In the early 2000s in Oregon some groups setup meetings for the entire group but they were in 2 different large meeting rooms. One room had the people who survived and the other had the people let go. Large layoffs can get really ugly.

"I doubt there's an HR rep there unless they expect some push-back on the decision. There's just too many people impacted to have an HR rep there."

they are there for legal reasons
managers don't know the law that well
also as a second witness

@cun It starts with your front line manager, and approved by your GM or VP. All the BUs get a target from Finance... and then the Group GM discusses it with their staff, and allocates a number, and then they do horse trading (some people say they can't cut so much, other managers want to look good, and give up more staff, etc). Once the targets have been agreed to, the manager looks at who they don't like, and they shoot to top of the list (regardless of performance), and if they need to cut more people, then they look at non-mission critical employees or employees without special skills (aka, easily replaced, or minimal value to the org), and if they need more, then they'll use folks who missed their OKRs as an excuse. Note: doing good work, or having a special skillset will not save you if your manager doesn't like you. Also, by the time they meet with you, there is zero appeals since the GM already approved the cut. If you have a legitimate employment claim (such as hostile work environment, or discrimination, they'll still cut you prob give you some more $$$ to sign waiver and go away).

I doubt there's an HR rep there unless they expect some push-back on the decision. There's just too many people impacted to have an HR rep there. BTW, the "pool" HR rep is basically a G5/G6 from Costa Rica or China (pray you don't get one from China) reading a script, and using Ask Ivy for answers... in the beginning, they oversaw several hundred employees each (I think it's down to a couple hundred each now). Everything has been standardized since last year Jan CPMs/VSPs... so the good news is that it's been vetted for 18 months, and thousands of CPM'd employees. The FAQ should be pretty robust by now.

You got a 1 1 invite without an agenda and HR got BCCed and jumped into the meeting and tell you a number. A week later you will report to a pool manager for 9 weeks then let go. They hire some external consult trying to help you with jobs seeking but pretty much useless. It is better to save that money for more engineering jobs. For my 15 years with Intel, most of time Intel is a great place to work. But starts to feel toxic in late 2022 as business is going down. Hope Pat is able to turn it around but feels less and less chances...

You get a 1:1 thrown in your Outlook calendar at the very last minute… your manager tells you the news and one week later you report to a person from HR in a banana republic. 60 days after that, you’re out the door…

My manager scheduled a 1:1 and when the director joined the meeting unannounced I knew what was up.

It was the second best day of my Intel career, the first was getting hired.

You will get an email from HR basically telling you to inform your manager to take you off projects and not to put you on any new projects. Then you will be placed in CPM
