Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Do not RTO!

You will find out if they need you or not? They wont fire you if they need you.

How is this still a thing? Your job is requiring you to go to the office. You are not required to stay in the job. Find something else if you aren’t happy.

If they are tying the stuffed suits’ bonuses into RTO adherence, you can bet they’re having their underlings crack down on us workers bees. That’s how the C suite incentivizes their “fiefdom lords”.

“This seems logical. I’d think most managers check attendance weekly or twice a month, and would likely give at least one warning after 2-4 weeks. Then at least another 2-4 weeks would have to go by without the person showing up in the office before the disciplinary action starts. Maybe 4-6 weeks if the manager is fast. As I’ve heard that managers bonus was also impacted, so they will likely be forced to take action quickly.”

Exactly…my director checks the report once a month….if that.
But you know, haters gonna hate.

Since Memorial Day I go in one day a week. Many others are doing the same now. Nobody says anything. It’s your choice to live in fear or free yourself. They can’t get rid of everyone.

“This isn’t true at all based on what happened to a few members in my tower.”

So what happened then?
Is it an org that actually cares about RTO?
Does the boss care about RTO?
Are they non-technical folks?

It really depends on your org and if they care about the RTO bs.

I’ll add to this, even if you did literally stop going in all together, it would take them probably months to fire you.
It would take probably a month for anyone to notice, then you’d get a talking to and warning, then if they somehow decided to fire you after the second warning it would probably take an additional month…but more likely you’d get a second warning and then you’d get fired.

So it would likely take ~2.5 months for you to even lose your job if you literally just stopped going into the office.

“A guess on lost retirement benefits. Lost concessions like health care, discount mobile service, or : can anyone remember any other benefits?”

Most of us aren’t near retirement or planning to stay here that long anyways, they can’t touch our 401k’s - that’s your money as long as your company match, RSU’s or whatever else you have is vested.

Yes, health care, but you lose out on that when you quit or whatever anyways, unless you’re laid off but whatever.

Besides that there aren’t really any other benefits, you can just switch mobile carriers and probably get a better introductory rate anyways from T-Mobile with better service.

They got rid of free dish or free streaming, there’s no more free HBO either. Hopefully if you plan to do this you will have something else lined up in which case, who cares.

I wrote a song about T RTO, it goes a little somethin’ like this:

I stroll in at 3pm
I get my badge on
I get my badge on
No one here, no one workin’
I get my badge on
I get my badge on
Grab a coffee, sit on Teams
I get my badge on
I get my badge on

You could get your badge on too
If you just knew these ceos don’t know what to do
No tracking, no expense
All you gotta do is badge and make an appearance

Work from home, get more done
RTO is a waste of time and no fun

Three days a week, enough for me
Drive in, badge, then you flee

" you will lose everything, including your retirement..."

How, pray tell, is the company going to confiscate MY retirement funds?

Walk me through that please.

“Noncompliance to RTO means you will be fired which is not great as it creates more complications for you. Layoff is completely different. You get severance and get to keep your retirement. Could be someone here from leadership posting and daring you to not go to the office so they can fire you as well. Don’t fall for their tricks. All bad swipes, and time in office being looked at so they can make their cuts going forward , so if you’re going five days a week eight hours a day you’ll survive until they don’t need you for some other reason like lack of work or no skills . those who go in And swipe and leave or those who go in two or three days a week for three or four hours they probably will be next and so on”

Presence report doesn’t show hours in office…

What id--t would make it so easy for them to fire you. If you refuse to RTO, you will lose everything, including your retirement.

If you need your job and not retirement-eligible, its not worth the risk. Believe me, I'm a big adversary of RTO, but if your job is on the line and you can't afford to lose it, why take that chance? The job market isn't that great right now. Better to start looking and hope you find a good one that will pay you what you need.

The issue with upper mgt is that they don't know what anyone does.
They got their jobs based upon EEO, who they knew, related to, sc. Rewed.
