Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

After 5+ years of working here, it’s obvious that Citi is banking on, pardon the pun, your desperation for continued employment.

I’m not a smart person or even a wise person. I’m just an average worker bee.
After 5 years even I know that this statement rings true that it does not apply to Citi.

“Train your people well enough to where they can leave. Treat them well enough to where they don’t want to.”

They shorten deadlines, fill your plate up with enough work to where you have to put in many hours per week past the average 40 for sure. At the end of the year, your bonus and raise will be minuscule. They can get away with because you are desperate to provide for your family and they know it.

Run. Run fast and take the first decent offer you get.

Don't forget all the managers having useless meeting after meeting to seem important and busy. Big ole waste of time! Then they make multiple demands for stuff you could have been working on if there were not so many meetings.

For as many layers of management that they trimmed, I can tell you that the org that remained, most of these managers do absolutely nothing and are just covering their tracks and making sure they look good on paper.

The report failed because it wasn’t serious and was only a facade. Seemingly relentless fines by regulators, business (or lack of it) as usual. It’s a gravy train. Why is Anand Selva still there? What’s he actually achieved? Can anyone point to a single thing? The vast list of MDs in risk, compliance and pointless, valueless global roles, what have they done and why are they still there? Once these people have been swept out and a proper reorg has been done then it might improve. I doubt it though. I’d sell off everything but the commercial bank. It’s the only thing that has value.

Both sides have problem, I came from service based company and in last 3 years i dont even see people talking about internal training and team knowledge sharing, some how most people feel insecure, and most managers feels leadership is an authority rather responsibility and it seems they never tried to learn new technologies and they dont know how to train their team. Also one thing i see people who worked longer years they some how lost their sense of responsibity and focusing more on safing their chairs. Managers please behave as grown ups, if you show your attitudes in meeting i doesnot indicate you are a great manager, one consider you as leader if you are ready to lead people with your proper actions. Other side Citi dont have proper training on new technologies.

The managers do nothing. It's why we are in this situation. It's a bunch of people posturing and flexing without real talent or experience. Citi is a sinking freaking ship.

What do Citi managers do every day. That is the million dollar question and why the reorg failed. Too many people managers behaving like slave masters instead of adding real value.

I have decided to do a little above the minimum required. No more. No less. They do not appreciate what I say or so why stress myself anymore? Why share your knowledge to disrespectful puffed up muppets?
