In IT scrum masters are being laid off. Anyone know if that effect blue badge scrum masters? Are they being replaced with overseas labor?

Sorry, I never really got the whole scrum master role. I get what they do, but always wondered if it was really necessary? Just another layer and a lot of busy work documenting our work.
Very similar theme has played out many times in Chevron. When what was once considered a "darling" position loses favor (usually by not living up to expectations), first the consultants go, then there's a drawn-out cycle (usually 1-2 PDCs) of trying to place favored employees into other positions, followed by the inevitable erasure of the position by layoffs of the poor souls who couldn't find another job.
