in 2023, they axed people without any believable cause. "Your skills and abilities are not what the company needs going forwards." Prove it!

So, don't get too excited about PIPs.

From my experience, PIP's are a waste of time. I had a guy on PIP for over a year and I was not allowed to get rid of him even though he showed no improvement (he was a nice guy, but 100% useless.... a real fish out of water). I dont think that he was connected but HR would not approve for some unknown reason.

Every LL6 and GSR will be PIP'd next week. That way they can let anyone they want go for cause.

Mid year reviews begin next week. It will be interesting to see if the underperformers are put on PIP, fired on the spot or just threatened with lower bonus/raise.

During Smart Redesign, all LL's participating at meetings with Boston Consulting were asked to sign NDA's. One of those LL's who now works in the Health Industry mentioned that all LL's input was crunched by BC team and in the end all Chief Engineers made recommendations to their Directors. LL's may have not known who was going to be let go but for sure they vented their grievances to BC singling out those they did not want to stay. Many people were forced to move out their departments / divisions and they blamed BC but in fact the LL's had a lot of influence in those moving out.

Someone mentioned after 11/5, likely due to the voting day for president. In reality, I don't think we will know for sure who the president will be until after 1/6/25.

The BOD is thinking “when do I get my next paycheck for being on Ford’s BOD.”

At least 2/3 of them need to be removed and not replaced. There’s a multi million dollar savings right there that could save some people doing actual work.

Ford and many other company will wait to invest and decide which direction to take after the elections. One party will mandate EV while the other will let ICE live longer!!

Ford is promoting to ICE TSs again with less experience. They kicked to the curb 3/4 of them in 2022 and 2023. Now they need them again. Clown show.

@cip

Unfortunately, your “worse” scenario is what I think is the reality. Farley went all in on EVs and Ford+ and it’s has been an abject failure 3 years in. He doesn’t know where to go from here. The fact that he still has a job is even more concerning to me. What the he-l is the BoD thinking?

Multiple agency terminations today, 8/8/24. Don't know if it's widespread but one department had several.

I asked my manager after the 2022 layoffs, if he knew ahead of time and he confirmed it. He may not know who is on the chopping block, but he knew when it was going to happen.

Another LL in my area converted contractors into FTE a few months ahead of the layoffs. He knew that cuts were coming. Just another example the LLs know when cuts are near.

Right now, nothing is coming down the grapevine. Which is a little bit worrying. Some people think, due to the heavy cuts done earlier, there is not much left to cut. Maybe they are right, since I see teams struggling to deliver, and some employees have left the company due to burnout.

However, I've been thinking in a worse possibility. I believe the C-suite does not know what to do next. The managers cut heavily into the ICE areas, thinking the company didn't need those people anymore, but it really does, and now the managers are second guessing themselves. If they keep cutting, less chances of getting the company out of the hole. If they don't cut, deeper the hole. Since we don't really have a leader, everyone is waiting for someone else to make the move (to steal the glory or blame someone else). So we are in the impasse now, but the longer we wait, the more drastic the upcoming changes will be.

When I was a LL5 back in 2019 and was let go under “SMART redesign” none of the LL5 or LL6s had any idea who was going to impacted and I don’t think that has changed over the years? Only the LL4s and above knew and of course they saved their own a$$ and took it out on the rest of the organization. We had several LL4s and above that needed to go.

LL6 here. Whether we are told anything is more a matter of how open your LL4 is to your team. Most peers I have talked to had no heads up in their team, but my LL4 at least shared what action was being discussed, but this is the only time he is vague on details like which teams or what percent. I’ve never had any idea on who was getting cut on my team, and I have been surprised when a top talent was let go last year. I never got a good explanation.

While Aug22 2022 was unknown at the time... several meeting request started showing up in Sunday night and the cat was out of the bag.

Fast forward 2 years and it does not look like much has changed. Friends that are till working are just playing a waiting game.

4 groups of people..

Aug22 2022... done and gone.. anybody with 30yrs should be happy it happened to them. Lump sum and such invested has done quite well.

Nov30 2022 .. This group took advantage of the lump sum bubble.

30 yr plus that stayed are probably wishing they could have taken advantage of the lump sum but in reality have postponed

20-30 yrs of service are just playing a waiting game hoping the company can keep it together until they can jump ship.

It's a different company from 35 yrs ago... its a different company from 2 or 3yrs ago..

One thing that is the same is stupid management decisions from the highest paid folks in the company. Going out of business since Jan. 17, 1956.

I have heard from a reliable source that there are no more layoffs planned for this year or next.

As a former LL6, they barely ever include that level in those types of discussions. I know that in my former team, non of the LL6's were aware of that week in 2023 what was happening and who was on that list.

In 2023, the LL6s seemed to have no clue who was going to be axed.

I don't believe Ford will have mass layoffs until after November 5.

Doubt it. Whatever is coming, and I believe a layoff is coming this year, is at least a month away. It is not that LLs open a sealed enveloped "to be opened only after this date" to start firing folks. We are not the army, just a public company, and there are processes in place. Those processes and information have to go down the chain of command, with LL6s knowing with at least a week in advance, and LL5s a month ahead. Therefore, there will be gossip, and we'll start seen a bunch of people posting the same date.

BTW, OP, you should stick to one week. I don't remember the last time Ford did 2 consecutive weeks of layoffs. LOL.
