Downstream pushing out Upstream at EMHC

Anyone else noticed the multi year trend of downstream pushing out upstream people? Technical leadership as well as managerial. Some very ugly examples. Only reasons I can think of are:

  1. DW is putting his pals in key roles
  2. Downstream salaries are lower so cheaper
  3. Downstream buy into the idea that cost cutting will save us and try run the upstream like a refinery

May the strongest most vile prevail. I have worked at both and prefer upstream to downstream. I don't know who will win but it will be fun to watch. There will be lots of back stabing front stabing and a kissing. There has been a reduction in upstream employees and research. There has been more hiring in downstream. So there is a trend. Remember the most important trend is the increasing use of BTC engineers and services. BTC is the end game and outsourcing. Exxons leaders will enjoy the show long live the hunger games for their enjoyment. We are just pawns in this sick game. Realize that and accept it. We have no power except to leave or retire. Don't be delusional about exxon or believe the lies. Truth is freedom.

The downstream has decades of experiences with operating at low margins. The Upstream faces an endgame with diminishing resources. We should learn from each other and optimize. Extend proven reservoirs and the liquid hydrocarbons while they exist...it won't last forever.

To be fair, every upstreamer I’ve met can’t do root cause analysis and just spends their way out of every problem. In the same way upstream projects had to teach downstream how to modularize projects, I hope downstream can teach upstream how to run a plant.

Typical mentality of in-fighting. Steal, lie, and bully just so they can get credit for themselves or their business unit. Sad.

Both the first 2 posts are nonsense. The upstream is taking over the downstream, with processes and practices that are completely unsuitable for the downstream business.

The fact that each heritage business sees the other as confrontational and winning the battle is symptomatic of the fractured, misaligned culture this company epitomises.

Very clear that we are running the upstream like the downstream. Amazing how the profitable will become unprofitable soon.
