Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Why does Cisco keep adding new employees, then cut people every 6 months ?

If you look at the employee count now, it is 85k. It was lower than this 6 months ago, when they did the 4k cut. The employee count has always been increasing every year. As soon the cuts are done, suddenly budget is available and big amount of hiring starts. Why can't this company control hiring, so they don't need to keep cutting. What a joke.

It's cost cutting 101. You can't bring your recurring labor costs down and still have some level of delivery without doing it that way or via useless contractors.

Simply replace American workers with those that live in a very low income country. It’s a three for one scheme. Doesn’t matter if customers hate it or if the work is poor quality… you’ve kicked the can down the road for 9 months until you can transfer to another “leadership role”. Pretty disgusting.

Companies cannot find "supermen" but they keep trying. Best is a person can do all work but leave manage to push bottom to get all credits.

Those who are not competent cannot recruit competent staff. Even accidently hire one, they don't know how to utilize.

Results - in good time, businesses lifted up as usual but in bad times, layoffs remaining competent but not well connected employee.

Why does Cisco keep adding new employees, then cut people every 6 months? Who do you think these new employees are? Many are the friends and family members of some managers. This is one of the known channels for them to stay in US and receive green cards. Otherwise, they have to join in a consulting firm and wait for H-1 visa lottery.

Yeah whenever Cisco says things like “investing more in growth areas ABC”, they actually just mean hiring contractors or people in India.

Cisco purges the older more expensive employees & replaces them with younger, cheaper workers. Or, they shift the work to India to reduce cost. Been going on for years. They mix enough young deadwood into the mix to avoid age descrimination lawsuits.
