Switching jobs internally would my manager know on workday

I am interested in applying to this job internally and was wondering if I applied for it on workday, would my manager know that I am looking for another job internally?

I am afraid if I apply and don’t get that job that would give my manager a reason to let me go when he is told to let go of someone.

Manager here. I have yet to know via a hiring mgr or Workday that an employee is applying elsewhere I have had employees tell me and I have had calls from hiring mgr after all interviews are done and they have made decision to hire (this is required) just prior to offer. Mgrs have no problem if it is a promo or different growth area. Some mgrs might get offended if it is a lateral in same area. It doesn’t matter. The call goes like this “hey, we had a position open and are going to offer X the role and need to know how much notice you need for them to leave” that’s it.

Workday does not notify your manager. It is the same as it used to be pre-workday. Word can get out between the managers if the manager of the role you applied for speaks to your manager, but workday itself does NOT tell your current manager you applied for a role.

I applied Internally for another position without letting my current Manager know.
But the very next day, my current Manager told me she needed me and then later I got a notification that I was rejected.

Have applied internally and was told by the recruiter that your current manager is not told until you are expected to get an offer. At that point they alert you to tell your manager you are considering another offer.

Technically the hiring manager can always informally reach out to your manager (I am not doubting this happens), but it is not part of the process.

In the past, your hiring manager has not been able to see you applied to another position. However I heard recently that if you have been in your role less than a year, the manager will now receive a notification. I believe the hiring manager can also see other positions you are applying for, so there is always a chance it can get out that way.

New Manager(B) will call current Manager(A)
B: hey did you know OP applied to this position I created.
A: No, I wasn't aware. Hyuk, hyuk
B: Oh I see. I'll figure out something. Hyuk, hyuk

In my experience (another industry), internally switching jobs rarely works - if you have bad reviews, the company usually has a policy in place to prevent slaves like you from escaping a bad boss; if you have good reviews, it means you're indispensable where you are, and your boss will not approve the transfer (or he'll try to make you look bad to the other department just for kicks). And yes, your boss will find out if/when you applied for a transfer sooner than you think (HR does not have a problem relaying this info back to him, it is their obligation, actually). Your best bet is to have very good ties with the object of your new affection (where you want to transfer to), and have your new manager keep a tight grip on the proceedings.
Good luck in your job search.

No, they won't know systematically. They'll only know if someone reaches out to them which usually doesn't happen.

If they are so inclined, they will get rid of you regardless if you apply or not.
Show some ba--s, ask your manager. Tell then you are right-sizing yourself.
That's what a boomer would do but wait, nobody listens to boomers cause they are too old.

I heard they get a notification when we apply, but don't quote me.
