Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

I firmly believe layoffs will not change Intel’s downward trajectory

Unless a miracle happens and all of a sudden we end up with new leadership who know exactly what has to be done, have a clear vision, and are bold enough to act accordingly. But outside of my unfounded fantasies, I think we are sc--wed. At this point, regardless of personal risks and bad job market, it would probably be a blessing in disguise to be laid off.

layoffs don't fix anything.
they hire the people back a year later.
the number of people at intel increases year after year.
it's nuts. but i would take the money and run.
take a year off and get your job back next year.

CPU+GPU+NPU !
x86 legacy now ! NVidia innovated and won out this production life cycle !
Ai software and Ai hardware will leave Intel behind like IBM Moto !
Fabs will be fallout ghost towns !
Fab workers will quickly find jobs at casinos as slot techs !

Layoffs did not fix IBM. They were only saved by eliminated most hardware (chips, printers, disk drives, etc) and focusing on hardware. Motorola died because that did not move quick enough from analog to digital cell phones. Kodak did not move quick enough from film to digital photography. Intel tried to milk X86 to long and now the end is in sight. A small portion of the company will remain.

Of course not.
Intel has a structural business model problem that is never getting solved no matter who is in charge.

Duh!
Problem has been management for years and the first Indian they hired decades ago that is responsible for hiring all the other Indians he is related to.

I agree with you about needing a miracle but I think we are beyond a better leadership. It took years of negligence to put us in this situation and now we are toast.

Our reputation for Intel branded product is beyond repair so that leaves foundry services.

In that sector we are proven to be lacking. Via oxidation, delays on our own products, struggling at nodes the competition have already surpassed, using the competitions fabs to build our latest product.

Intel wants to do both product and foundry services contradicting all relevant data that this is not an attainable goal. That is the main reason given for sell ratings on our stock.

It will take years to come back in any significant way in whatever we select to peruse but to try and do both while billions in debt is a fools game.

Some people are wise to consider a package as being paid to go find a new job. That is not the worst case scenario by any means. I've survived 31 years and 6 layoffs and have seen many people stay or leave. Finally my time to leave.
