Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Can we volunteer to get laid off? And still get the severance?

What the title says!

Not for a friend of mine. Asked to be part of one and wasn't. Manager told him he was a valued asset. After the LR he told the manager to value him as an asset with higher pay. Manager wouldn't. So he worked about 15 hours a week, socialized, didn't do any work, manager threatened his employment. 18 months later another LR. He was part of that one and thanked the manager.

If you are in Europe, just speak up against things what are going wrong (and bring solutions) and the selfish Directors, VPs, GMs will put you on the list.

Too late now, but next LR is always around the corner in Cisco. It’s easy to get picked, just annoy leadership.

Yes and it is a nice action to save other's job, only exception when there are someone the leader don't like. They using the chance to get rid of that person.

Yes it is possible if you know it before. I am aware of a SE leader who knew about the February layoffs some months before so he spoke with his manager to put him on the list because he wanted anyway to leave. He saved with that probably 2 FTE‘s from LR.

Speak to your manager and explain you want to go and hope he/she picks you… that is if they arent getting LR themselves i hear tons of senior director, directors and managers about to be hit hard…
