At this point, for many 6 years added time might diminish your cash buyout further, as might 6 years added to age.

Your union pension is presently worth pennies on the dollar with inflation and the high interest rates. $2000 a month will not get you too much these days. Hope you were all smart enough to take advantage of the 401k and stay away from the VZ stock in there. If you invested in one of the large company funds that mirror the S&P or Russell you will be good to go.
