Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

FirstNet lies

Years ago, when we announced FirstNet, one of the promises was that AT&T would be improving the network and coverage, since First Responders would be reliant on the network to be available where ever they are. I was excited about the improvements, and generally proud of AT&T and FirstNet.

I now have a son that is a police officer in a town which has an interstate that runs through it, is mostly commercial, and neighbors a city (220k residents). His town is less than 6 square miles and is fairly flat. The computer in his car uses FirstNet 4G and his car has external 4G antennas. Yet, there are areas where his computer's connection is slow or non-existent. He's left looking things up on his consumer AT&T cell phone with 5G that gets marginally better reception. I'm ready to offer to pay for him to switch to Verizon or T-Mo.

What kind of cr-p is this?

I'm not proud of AT&T or FirstNet anymore. It is simply a money grab and doing as little as possible. The promise and commitment to our First Responders is nothing but words.

Shame on you AT&T.

LastNet has been the biggest fraud in mobility since the contract was purchased errrrr I mean won. Production numbers are fabricated solely to satisfy the contract milestones to the LastNet authority. The vast majority of first responders that demo the network consistently say the same thing. It does not perform any better or any worse than the commercial network. It’s deceptive marketing putting people at risk. The lack of differentiation speaks volumes to lack of premium technology. Most of the sales resources are commercial resources that were either identified surplus or were low performers in business or retail segments.

Reading OPs comment and the responses on this post I call shenanigans as not one reply is correct and all show a less than basic understanding or total ignorance as to how FirstNet works. I'll not provide the insight here would rather the vz and tmo shills keep ignorant and if god forbid any of you posting are actually T employees especially in a front line see what I did there vz :) customer facing role please speak to someone from the FirstNet team so you can get dialed in.

I have to say that I worked in an area where AT&T was simply not a player in mobility due to far inferior coverage, and that the FN build out actually made a big difference, resulting in us winning nearly all of the first responder business from VZ.

Now, I seriously doubt T can keep it going, since the company seems to think you can just fire people endlessly to cut costs without adversely affecting network reliability. But it really did make a difference in my market from 2019-2023.

Then I took a package last year, so no idea how it's going now.

Nothing better than working on some CPE at a 911 PSAP and the Sheriff, Police Chief, deputies, & officers wear you out complaining (and rightly so) about how poor the FN coverage is.

…part of FN was to provide a mergeable network where all responders on site could communicate with one another….remember this entire push was in reaction to the 9/11 attacks.

"any and all first net phones would get priority and those calls would go thru first! "

That's supposed to be how it works, but the company is selling "firstnet" to as many people as it can & I have to wonder if the FN network is designed to serve all these people who aren't really first responders in a real emergency.

I have to imagine the company just does not GAF & figures they'll just have to say "sorry" and maybe pay a fine if things don't work the way they're supposed to when it matters.

correct me if I am wrong but other poster was correct, first net wasn't really going to give you better service every day it was intended to be used when there is a network outage of sorts that every one and their mother is using a cell phone that instead of getting a message that says "were sorry but the network is busy now please try your call later"!
instead any and all first net phones would get priority and those calls would go thru first!

Well thankfully AT&T is partnering with ASTS to support FirstNet via satellite service.

If you took the FN training, it was very clear how FN works. It never you would have perfect service. It's just an uplift in an emergency situation. HOw does the low level employees know this but no management? oh yeah, sales---and retail lies, lies and gets the janitor who cleans the department on FN.

Well FWIW they actually built additional towers in Naples, FL, something unheard of before FN. Network buildout is a slow burn tho.

Firstnet is just another example of our government attempting to do something right but failing miserably due to corporate greed.

Yeah, it's turned out to be a scam. We're selling FN to just about anyone - oh, you wash police uniforms? - FirstNet.

do you really expect anything else from this management.

all talk no walk except when it comes to getting their bonus.

vp's on up are disgusting and how they look at themselves in the mirror at all is beyond me.

they showed they could care less about any law and order and are releasing people's ssn into the dark web even after years of cutting ties with the company.

I hope this company rots away and dies a slow and painful death. they deserve everything that is coming to them and the senior management belongs in jail.

"what is the town/city?"

I'm not going to give that away because, as an employee, that wouldn't be a smart idea. Sorry.

It is absolutely true, and as the parent of a first responder, I'm pi---d. And I'm even more pi---d that it's my company that is letting him down.

It's a hard enough job without wondering if your equipment is going to work when you need it.

Firstnet should’ve been built out by a consortium of telcos so that the intended results were achieved. This should never of been a money maker but rather to make communication better.
Another failed government program!
