Thread regarding Optum layoffs

OptumRx Home-Delivery Pharmacists being offered temporary part-time, majorly overstaffed

They have been asking for 1800 hours of VTO per week and today we got word they will be offering temporary part-time status but only for those who are higher performers. Isn’t that kind of strange? Wouldn’t they want the higher performers still working the 40 hours?

The temporary part-time is only for 8 weeks. Does anyone know if there are lay-offs coming either during or after those 8 weeks? If so who is going to be targeted?

OptumRx is a layoff shop. After nearly 30 years, our team was decimated after being acquired with many senior people let go who were in their 60s. This includes pharmacists and doctors and many others.

Advice: if you’re highly paid, older, have skills that can be used by a cheaper worker, it’s time to dust off your resume and look elsewhere while you are still employed.

While the job market is lousy, take the opportunity to look while employed to extend your runway. Part of working for a company like this is to have a good one to two years of cash saved up for the day when you get the “team meeting update” email. Hard to save that much but over time it can be done and is super worth it.

I think severance is based on other factors. You wouldn’t get half if they just switched you to half time, and they are only offering the temporary part time to employees who have good ratings. No discipline or quality issues. So they seem to be MAYBE making a safety net to keep good employees but reduce their hours - then cull the ones who stay on full time. In another thread and another department someone said the people let go was the full timer not the part timers. Could be similar. Don’t know for sure though

I wonder if you are 1/2 time at time of layoff if your severance is only 1/2 time

Why would they go through the trouble of making the summer reduced hour program just to lay-off people on the 18th. Doesn’t make any sense. They would just lay-off people
on the 18th and never make the program.

Has it already been decided who is getting notified on the 18th? Is this current part-time offer a trap or a safety measure?

We are all wondering when layoffs are happening for pharmacists. This VTO has been ongoing for months.
