Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Remember all those folks who quit during the "great resignation?"

I know at least three who are currently unemployed. I never quit and even with all the layoffs, I am still here, still employed, still earning good pay. People really thought the grass was greener and sc--wed themselves over in the long run. Goes to show that a bird in hand is often better.

Always better looking for the new job when having one. If one doesn't come and get RA get a severance package if it's decent if not and older then check with law firms suing IBM for age discrimination

but it is always comforting to read when someone high up in Bluescam management gets hit with a sudden departure nor worse, a termination notice; the info trickles through the ubiquitous grapevine. You know then that there is a universal force called karma and it get's them every time for the evil they have done to others. As they say, Karma is a bi--h. No if, but or maybe about that.

And not even AK, JK, JW and Nickel and Dime can stop it in a billion years if they tried their damndest.

I worked at IBM for 13 years. Never had a bad review and was laid off. So honestly, why cr-p on the people that left? I stayed and was hit. No one is safe staying or leaving in this market unfortunately.

This is quasi related to this thread I suspect this is why IBM hit the legacy SW group so hard this spring with layoffs. They bought new innovation, so the legacy stuff was disposable once the deals were close. Expect more to come as announced deals come to fruition and more legacy folks get asked to leave as the new companies come up to speed.

There’s just too much competition out there with cutthroat live test coding exams to land high paying engineering jobs for ex-IBMers late in their careers; that’s what OP is observing

keep ur head down because you boost of staying with a confidence you aren't at risk in the future. I know a half-dozen that left during the great resignation who are happier and doing far better professionally, so there is greener grass to b had

You likely are only there because your group hasn’t been impacted by a layoff…if they actually laid off people at IBM based on performance regardless of area and were willing to allow those with good/excellent performance reviews move into other positions when layoffs are necessary, you would have likely seen the door a long, long time ago
