Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

I'm happy to see that at least some people have had enough of Chevron

I'm tired of being surrounded by sycophants who keep claiming that everything is just perfect. People on this board give me hope.

I've worked at placed where layoffs were much more common and deeper cuts than what Chevron is like today and recently. Not sure what all the fuss is about. Goes with the territory. I knew that going in because I talked to people. In college and working at companies, don't you guys get the scoop and share info anymore? Don't people talk? I'm simply not buying that this is some uncanny, novel and new development. A lot of other industries are like that also these days. Get used to it.

I've worked at places where management layoffs the bottom 5% every year. They called it getting rid of the rot. You never see anyone in leadership getting the boot. The place was constantly on edge because your boss could put you at the bottom of the ranking. Some supervisors take advantage of the situation to retaliate against people they don't like. Looks like CVX is going the same way. Better hold onto your nose.

@1lbx+1: "...I personally think 2020 ruined the company..." Take it from someone who retired in 2020, Covid was used as an excuse to unceremoniously dump us. I'd probably give myself away if I gave any details but suffice it to say the company gave us the impression they were only interested in one thing - getting back our laptops and badges.

The company has absolutely changed since MW took over. The threat of layoff is higher and there are constant cuts and changes. There is even talks of evergreen layoffs. Management doesn't seem to know what is going on and is absolutely untrustworthy. I personally think 2020 wrecked the company. It wasn't covid but the obscene cuts that were made that cut far too deep. It's been a disaster since.

There will always be people who "have had enough of Chevron" (or any other company). There's a science we don't embrace - personality profiling. Yes, I know years of pointless e-colors (cute in email signatures, that's about all it was ever used for), but in reality personality profiling (or, for the job-seeker, company profiling) will give you insight as to whether or not an individual is going to "fit in" (and, by extension, whether a team is going to mesh well). The real trouble is that there's too many who "have had enough of Chevron" who are technically elite (just look at the people who left in 2015-2016). These were the people who were supposed to take over leadership positions (managerial or technical) after the 2020 Boomer Purge. Part of the mess now is that those people weren't there for a smooth transition.

People have had enough of work, in general. The grass may be greener on the other side, but most of us are allergic to it. I'm not gonna take BS or work for crazies for a fraction of what I make here - that's why most of us stay. Resilience is a good trait and valued.

My entire career in Oil & Gas was during the threat of layoffs, which happened to me a couple of times and I was rehired fairly soon afterwards. Has something changed recently?

If you don't like it you need to get on out. We need to be thankful for whatever Mikey gives us. Having a non chaotic workplace with the constant threat of layoffs is a bit much to ask.

MOST people understand that you have to work for a living and to collect a paycheck and work isn't fun and never was. And most of us here get to work in an air conditioned environment all day and some have a hybrid schedule. A lot of folks don't have that and don't have near the pay and benefits that we have. Do you have anything specific that you are unhappy or upset with about the company? apparent "scyophants" and someone claiming things are "just perfect" doesn't tell us much. I don't know anyone who claims that, anyway.

Some people? My take would be 50% enjoy the paycheck and say nothing either way, 30% would take any way out if it presented itself, and 20% are high pots and high pot wannabes.
