Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

What happened to the NFT shoes? And what about the Metaverse?

We invested millions of dollars, long hours, and lots of marketing material into these sinkholes, and nothing has come out of them

Mr. Accountability hasn't said a word since last year. What happened? Why more investors aren't asking these questions?

nike leadership showing how d-mb it is to willingly get scammed and buying into the hype. everyone went crazy over nfts despite not understanding it and the artificial manufactured demand that it is, other than it's big right now so we better invest in it because we don't want to be left behind, nevermind that it's just a jpeg that anyone can download for free. and then a year later all those people got laid off because of a d-mb business decision based on hype instead of substance

Nike bought a whole 🫏 crypto company.

We never launched a product but we sent plenty of 💸 to heaven (or a buddy’s pockets, buying out his startup).

Did Nike ever jump directly into the blockchain bandwagon? I'm not taking about NFTs or stupid sh-t like that, but trying to implement a blockchain for whatever reason

Mindlessly chasing genAI is going to be our next money sinkhole too. no innovation, just chasing the latest tech goldrush a year late

I believe you are talking about the .Swoosh strategy

@1sqv+1tqdWC1k 💯 accurate. Mr Love is Blind does not have the background or experience to lead any digital or immersive strategies let alone manage a team. I feel for his reports. He does not treat them well. Follow his social media. He is traveling with his wife for likes more than he is in the office “working”. As usual, the rules don’t apply to everyone.

@1sqv
Just to be clear, you are referring to two separate individuals here.

From the 2018 article shared by @nrt:

“Nike’s connection to and understanding of their consumer is unsurpassed and we look forward to joining their team,” said David Bleicher, the CEO of Invertex ..."

Obviously, David's message hasn't aged well.

Don’t be fooled. The SD brought nothing to the role. He was a part of the entitled club of life lifesuckers who took credit for his team’s work and rode the gravy train. Don’t believe Mr Love is Blind for a minute. Check his cred. He’s fake as fu%k. Hired by a VP just to look good. No clue and is an a$$hole to his team. He spends most of his time on socials and PTO and does nothing to support his team or work.

All de-prioritized and obfuscated. Also, one of the roles laid off in phase 2 was Sr. Director, Immersive & Apparel 3D Design, if that's any indication.

Industry experts throughout Nike's creative departments with active experience and insight into these projects were recently affected, as well. Bad investments, egotistical leadership and constant restructuring all stymie innovation.
