Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

How are you coping, guys?

With losing a colleague, all the recent hits, the uncertainty with coming cuts? I think that only hard work and good people I work with keep me from falling apart.

Do a good job? Polish up my skills? I was offered a job as a manager and told I would be trained, got the training. But at the end of every page it tells employees to ask me for clarity. These guys know way more about there jobs than I do, but I'm supposed to teach them? I'm supposed to know their answers? I'm not the only manager like this, I can tell. But if we ask too many questions eventually people gonna figure out we don't know. I asked my boss a question once and he told me that I am the expert! What the F#ck kinda answer is that? At least w/ dei we had some protection. I seen how the older managers get treated, no thank you. I didn't go to college to put up this.

@8pqv-You make it sound like UP is going to fire all minorities or something if they get rid of the problem. Just do a good job and you’ll be fine.

How are the "people" heartless? If you were hired based solely on physical attributes, then yeah I'd be worried too! If you don't bring value and quality to a job, then I'd probably let you go too! Some people are holding onto the DEI program like a welfare program. That program was never meant to be successful, just like PSR. It's short term gain, then long term pain! All of these companies that ran with a DEI program didn't see anything close to the results they were expecting. The DEI programs are being scrapped because they DIDN'T WORK! Remember the UP's 2nd chance initiative? That was a program for non-violent felons to get them reintroduced into the working class. I remember when convicted felons wouldn't be considered for employment at any railroad, but THE FELONS WEREN'T EVEN APPLYING! If I were you, then I'd strongly suggest you look at your actual qualifications and polish them up. Quit whining about a program that was never meant to work.

I am a manager and I can tell you this company doesn’t give a sh-t about any of us. 2018 was proof of this. We are all just a number to the big railroad. It will be here long after we are all gone. Enjoy your family, because at the end of the day that is all you will have left.

Every downvote on this post is from a kool-aid drinking manager.

The Union Pacific has proven time and time again it doesn’t care about its employees. More work with less people. They don’t care about safety as long as it doesn’t affect profits

I coped by leaving. Most of the good people I worked with were let go, except for a few. Those few that were still there when I left have also quit now. I don't know who is there now and I really don't care. Staying at the UP isn't a good idea with the current management they have. You're either going to get injured or fired. Either way, there's not too many people that make it to retirement anymore. No point in staying at any company that doesn't value it's employees.
