I decided during layoffs to leave at the first opportunity. Designer. It doesn’t look promising. I found some openings in smaller companies, but the job market overall seems very tight. What’s your experience? Any advice?

@4yci+1tt7xeDK Hey.. Has HR sent you here to speard negativity and discourage people to look for better opportunities? F your self..
@4yci+1tt7xeDK you are right. I am sure you never find a job.
And there are always people who will say it’s fine or “dependent” completely dismissing the reality of so many with toxic positivity!
There will be people out there who always tell you how tight is the market and they always say they know people who have not find jobs for the entire year. Just do not listen to them.
Leave for the first job that pops up. It is only getting to get worse from here for the next couple of years at least...
It’s tight out there apparel and FW are only growing at a rate of inflation, the market is flooded and oil role are also trying to get out of their current situations… just keep looking but also be thankful to have a job, the number of talented people I know who have run out of unemployment and are scrambling to keep afloat is insane
Do not give up. Look at it as a full time job. Stick to a routine. I typically browse glassdoor and LinkedIn every night and find and save 4 to 6 jobs and the next day I apply to those. Make sure to apply to at least 3 to 5 per day.
I have a couple of friends not associated with Nike who got laid off. They’ve been unemployed since January and decided to now switch careers. One was a Marketing/Ad designer and the other was graphic designer. Both got laid off at the same employer.
They called me out of desperation to hope they can find a job here. I basically told them we’re pretty limited since we just went through a reorganization ourselves… I felt really bad for them. Basically they were on verge of tears since Unemployment dried up.
I’d say if you’re looking, you better be motivated, there are some really desperate people out there.
If you call your nike hrbp asking for guidance and help, you most likely will get fired
If you send a message to nobull s hr, you will be heard and maybe get a new job
Congrats Nike. If it was intentional (walking us out of the door), you are doing an amazing job
Their HR is doing more than our HR
(or just need someone to talk to)... 😆 🤣 😂
Check nobull s post on social media. Being slapped on the face by a 200m anual revenue brand
“Dear Ex-Nike Employees,
“We are so sorry about your recent news. At NOBULL, we believe adversity builds character: when you get knocked down, you get back up; when one door closes, another one opens – and our doors at NOBULL are always open.
"We are building something really special here at NOBULL, led by serial entrepreneur @RepoleStable and @TomBrady, and we know it’s PEOPLE who build brands and make the biggest difference to the success of the company.
“Congrats on a historic and epic run for both you and @Nike, but even great athletes like Tom Brady and iconic brands like Nike eventually retire!
“You have all played a huge role in the past, but now it’s your chance to join our team and play a huge role in the future – by building the next epic and iconic brand.
“If you’re interested in joining TEAM NOBULL or just need someone to talk to, please reach out to HR@NOBULLproject.com or our summer intern TomBradyIntern@NOBULLproject.com. LFG.”
I came across a company called Keen footwear looking for designer. Also saw similar positions recently advertised by Hoka and NewBalance and another company called Insite. I am looking for job like around the clock. I have only started for the past 30 days and I have got around 12 interviews so far out of 200 applications and 3 are at final stages. 🙃 I applied to inside and outside industry and in every state! I am single and have no kids so easy to move. If I see a position open, I would apply and then I get a hold of its HR or recruiter on LinkedIn and will tell them that I have applied and I hope they consider me. 80% of these interactions led to interviews. There was a big corporate that I recently applied but could not get a hold of its recruiter on LinkedIn. I literally called their corporate office and asked to be transferred to HR and recruiter and left multiple voice message for multiple people... Then after a few days I got a call and was invited for interview... They said in these times and days people do not call corporate and leaves voice mails about job opening and they liked my persistence...
That being said. Please please please do not listen to the negative narrative out there... There will be a job for you. If you limit yourself to Portland and only footwear industry, then it might be tough
It is very tight out there. You probably need to be willing to move but even then it's not a guarantee.
You will find something eventually but don't jump ship until you find a new role. It could take a year or more.
