How consultants robbed intel

Fun fact: for 15 years until 2021, intel had hired Bain on a retainer basis, paying them millions of dollars per year to consult on a variety of “strategy” topics and to collect industry insight. Think about what happened in those 15 years. Intel missed mobile, missed the foundry-fabless split, missed IP-SoC split and missed every other strategic opportunity. And yet the crooks at Bain walked away with tens of millions and used our information to make millions from competitors.

And yet, Saf was hired from McKinsey and even now, McKinsey and BCG advised intel on how to make cuts.

The ELT should be fired for criminal negligence and incompetence, starting with the megalomaniac CEO.

Consultants are hired to take the blame for the ELT. They are the bait and distraction for crazies. I bet you will see more use of them, especially during the cutting.

Blaming external actors for Intel’s decades of strategy and execution failures is ridiculous cope. The same people consult numerous other companies who aren’t collapsing. When your world is burning down around you, try some introspection before seeking out others to blame.

Intel followed the bad advice so whose fault is it in the end? If I tell you to liquidate all of your assets to buy lottery tickets and you do it is it my fault when you are broke? The board and ELT payed people to gather information and analyze it. The “leaders” are supposed to be smart enough to make the right decisions. Intel is not a victim here this is just more evidence of the overwhelming ignorance that prevails at this company.

Totally agree, except I would change "fired" to "fired, prosecuted, convicted, and sent to prison".

No one is that stupid so that leaves criminal negligence

intel should have hired some mimes instead, much cheaper

Fresh out of school kids giving Pat & ELT brutally obvious "insights" - forking up millions over just for them to say "we crunched the numbers and Intel needs to slash workforce by 15%"
