Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

As you listen to ELT today, think about what a union could do

Are they taking a hit too? Nope.
Did we have a say in who was getting let go? Nope.
Was there an offer of compromise? Nope.
Do we get to hold our leadership accountable? Never.
Did you get to decide that we went to unlimited PTO? Nope.
Are you getting a way smaller bonus this year, while shareholders get another "awesome year"? Yup.
Are your jobs being moved to "lower cost centers" where this company will exploit the people of those regions for pennies on the dollar? Yup.

Just think about a union and how having a seat at the table could have altered all of those things that I listed out. Think about being able to prevent an LR just by all of us, collectively, holding the right people responsible.
Hundreds of thousands of tech workers will lose their job this year simply because of the greed of the corporations. We deserve better. We should organize.
I know you get paid well. But what security do you have? How often do you need to go through one of these? Or watch another company lay off almost everyone?
Whatever the case, we need solidarity.

No thanks. I’d rather be LR’d and independent.

"Is there an example of a union that hasn’t become bureaucratically top heavy and out of touch with the members?"

I think you might have the auto workers union on the brain. I get that.
But lots of unions do lots of great work. Electrician unions are renowned for being strong, fair, and able to keep the worker at the center of everything. Look at what they pay for an apprenticeship !
We can do this!

Unions helped Dems destroy manufacturing in the US.
