Who decides if I get laid off?? ELT says “it’s your manager not us!”

What BS. As a direct manager we get told nominate this many people in this country or at this grade or just a by the way Bob is being let go now go get training to tell him in a way which means he can’t sue us.

FLM, and prior 2LM. Question would be "any low performers? who could you do without?".
Actual decisions taken by Sr.Dir... Dir maybe have more input, but unlikely.
Only influence this time appears to be 20% "Critical to Retain" == Safe.

Age sounds about right - even if mgmt doesn’t do it directly they probably get their favorite pet or team mate on the same language panel to get the details. Other criteria might also be relevant - to protect one type of employee over another.

It’s rather shameful to do that. But the man shamelessness starts right at the top at Cisco.

The fact that FLMs do not know and do not have a say in who is getting LRed is pure horse sh-t which I would gladly shove back into the mouth and the empty head of any manager who is saying this
There is no way in he-l the upper management takes the risk to randomly fire people based on their salary only (because that is the purpose of these LRs anyway. The only exception would be when the entire team or that manager in particular is being sacked too.

Any sane person would ask the FLM a normal question: If I let Bob go, would that impact any client or major project? What would be the impact of letting Bob go?

Stop the B$, enough that we have to put with it on a daily basis within the company, spare us here, we are not supposed to tolerate your cr-p outside of the Cisco network or buildings.

Fran spoke without thinking and she was stupid in doing so. I am not surprised.

FLM thanks for your transparency i think then your manager probably a director in your org has provided that name and you did not have any say, i have been hearing this a lot FLM are directly bypassed by directors again politics at its best probably happens only in cisco

FLM here. Can confirm we had no say in the Feb layoff. Was given the names and told we had to take some training and deliver the news.

At this point, I’ve not been asked to nominate anyone. Nor have any of my peers. I was shocked to hear Fran say it’s the manager’s call. Certainly wasn’t the last time around.

OP didn't you as a manager provide the initial list let's say 2 person from your team and then ELT determines which one goes ? That seems fair game to me but you indeed provided that initial list they did not choose some random person from your team hope my understanding is correct

I had to LR people in Feb and was shocked by Fran’s comment. No FLM I know had any say, just an email/call with names you had to notify.

If it’s up to the FLM this go round does that mean we have the option to say “I’d rather not”

I imagine not. SLT passing the blame.

In my org, we assign employees to future projects without funding. If someone is assigned to a future project without funding they get the axe.

The employee rarely realizes they are on useless future project. Thus, the term redundancy.

I got LRed on Feb and I feel the same as OP,
I see many people like me 50+, hold some RSU, rating is good. Got LRed in continuous 3 quarter. There must be an formula to pick up people based on the factor and let go.
