Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Q for those who want to change job

Are you looking into jobs in other banks or widening the search? I’ve been in WF for almost ten years now, and I’ve had enough banking to last me three lifetimes. I recently started looking for another job, and would like to do something entirely different. Any ideas? Where have you been looking? Some friends are even proposing govt jobs or non-profits. Pay for me is not that important as benefits, good work-life balance, and maybe a sense that I’m doing something actually useful (if that’s even possible anymore). I’ve been stuck in banking for too long, and I don’t have many ideas as to where to look.

And as far as state jobs, they are UNION so you are protected as long as you do your job and show up to work!

City, County, State jobs. No back stabbing, just people willing to work and help our those in our great state of MN. And if you're still young enough, go into the trades if male or become an RN if you're smart enough!

I’m in the same spot but have 28 years in banking. I’m so over it!

You think you won't be "just a number" working for the Government? If that is your concern, I would not work for the Government.

I was there a LOT longer than 10 years. I sat down and wrote my skills and then wrote down the top 3 things I liked about my job and focused on jobs that would translate. I went the government route for the benefits. Best of luck to you!

I’ve been focusing on gov contractors, have gotten some interest. Salaries seem good, although hard to beat the big banks.

First get a list of your current skills: financial analysis? organizing? facilitating? insight? process analysis? customer relations?
Get a list of other fields you may interested in. Like supply chain management, small business, accounting, engineering.
Second see what skills overlap in other fields?

Here is a gemini prompt "I am tired of being in financial services.  What other occupations should I consider? How do I find out?"
It pointed to Online Career Assessments: Websites like O*NET, CareerOneStop, and My Next Move offer assessments to help you identify potential careers based on your interests and skills.

I'll apply to anything right now, but my plan in the next couple years is to try and find a smaller, more stable company. I don't want to take a pay cut if I can manage to find something comparable. Also considering government. Something where I don't feel like I am just a number.
