Looking like Friday 8-23-2024 or Monday 8 -26-24 for big layoffs with Ford Motor Co.

And Ford Credit. Lots of long meetings today in multiple depts. Preparing for the worst.

Nope. Can’t have layoffs now. Harris has to win Michigan and high unemployment now would jeopardize that.

I was a dev at Fordpass working on the Android side of things.

I knew Kotlin and Python.
mind you I made significant contributions to that team.
How significant? One of the scripts I wrote held the entire app together.
without it the app build would fail.

It was like that for 2 years till they eventually replaced it.

did well on reviews etc but none of that mattered lmao.

When I got laid off.

I applied to Android and Python jobs.
I was lucky enough to have had an offer in both areas.

So cast a wider net.
It will increase your odds of success.

I can see meeting scheduled from my director on Monday (08-26-2024). I feel if the post is correct. We may have the layoffs this Friday. And they will try to calm the rest of the team on Monday I believe. I may be wrong here 😅.

In the decade that I spent at Ford, and going through the yearly layoffs it was always a case of being liked by your management that saved your job. During the last 4 layoffs, I watched very competent and good engineers be let go while mediocre ones were saved because the leadership above just liked them, when it was my turn to go, I could tell it was coming as my job turned into something that I hated, I was given unrealistic goals and the performance reviews did not describe me or my tasks performed but I was also not allowed to object or question the the LL5 as that would have canned me on the spot. Fast forward a few months later, I received a sizable pay bump, a short commute to a new job, and 100% reduction of stress so in the end I won as did many others who were in my situation.

Fun fact - I've been with Ford nearly 2 decades now, and layoffs have been a part of my life since I started. Somehow I've survived the routine herd thinning's throughout the years. Auto manufacturers hire and they fire as they adjust to the industry and the economy. Trust me when I say I can relate to the worry and the stress. I was there, but really, the best thing you can do for yourself and anyone you're supporting is to do your level best and try to remain focused on the task at hand, but also do what you can to prepare for the worst. You can't stop living and investing in your future simply because you fear losing your job, but you can be smart about how you spend your money. Make smart choices today so you don't have regrets tomorrow.

"Don't say this, I just bought a new house and have a baby on the way. I need this job."

You'll have no problem making a "living" if you are half way competent. It might not be what you'd rather be doing...but there is plenty of work out there for you to support your family. Losing a job at Ford is far from the worst that could happen. Please keep things in perspective, Good Luck, and prevent lifestyle creep as much as possible. juts because you may have a high salary, doesn't mean you need to run out and get a new Ford, ect...

To the young person with a new house and baby on the way, congratulations on both and try to avoid worry.
If Ford hired you then you have job skills in demand elsewhere too.

It’s consumer week too. Product has tons of big meetings this and next week to plan. Idk if meetings signal layoffs. I wouldn’t say that they aren’t coming but would rather stay positive.
