Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

How are you all keeping your motivation?

I had wanted to stay at the bank for the rest of my career and retire from here, but at this point, it’s so hard to get myself to care about anything I’m supposed to do. It hasn’t impacted my reviews yet, so I guess I’m coasting for now, but I miss feeling really engaged in my work. I never wanted to work in the org I was moved to, and I keep being asked to do things that aren’t at all related to my training, experience, and skillset. That would be fine if I was interested in learning those things, but I just don’t care. I didn’t sign up for this.

I am not motivated. I do what I can in 8 hours and forget this place afterwards and no I’m not doing the RTO. They don’t pay me enough to waste my life commuting 3 days a week to some shady city.

Another Friday and another paycheck, my only motivation

Manager ask for volunteers for project and work on weekends, I tell her I have plans for weekends

They get 8 hours a day and nothing more. 10 hours or 8 hours result in same pay check and same odds of getting layoff

Imagine the su-kers working 12 hours a day and doing special projects and then get layoff

I have seen those people, feel bad for them

Yeah, there is no motivation at all. They buy 8 hours of my day, thats it. I will not work past the time they are purchasing from me. I get "meaningful" performance reviews every time. My manager is constantly trying to get me to do more and dangling a possible "extraordinary" performance review in front of me like its some sort of incentive. I've see what you have to do in order to get this. 10 hour work days constantly kissing every manager's back-side, some weekends, volunteering for special committees in the bank, etc... all for like 1-2% more bonus and the possibility of a promotion (which given last round of promotions, less than 20% of all the names there were given for promotion actually got one). I keep my head down, do the work and im always on the lookout for a way to cut and run.

Do enough to not get fired and nothing more. Bonuses and raises are so minimal that being an extraordinary performer vs. meets expectations performer is a pretty tiny difference in $. If you feel like you are going to get fired, see a therapist and get diagnosed with anxiety/work related stress and go out on paid leave. While on paid leave, find another job. The whole process takes several years to fire someone on medical leave.

Another day, another paycheck. I just pretend I am a day laborer.

No assign cube, no nothing, we’re just day laborers at USBank, I will work as one

Extra effort and doing anything more than required is a total waste here. Your boss will never notice or care. You will get the exact same raise and bonus as the useless teammates sitting around you. Your teammates understand what's happening.

What motivation? I hope they burn in he-l. I’m motivated to see this vision come to fruition. Fu-k RTO. Fu-k AC. Fu-k them all.

I have no motivation between constant layoff and RTO, treating us all the same.

I am fortunate I am near retirement or. I would definitely quit, there is no future here.

I pray for a layoff and severance. Right now, just doing enough to get a paycheck every 2 weeks. Treat me like a temp, I will work like one

I don’t. I show up put my headphones in do what I need to and get my paycheck. I have no interest in being a flag bearer for this company. I give them my 8 hours and I leave it at that. No point in caring above and beyond when they don’t care about their employees.

I’m only motivated to get a paycheck. I could care less about the products I’m supporting. It’s so hard to get anything done here. A maze of process that’s just numbing. I have very little repertoire with my immediate team and my manager is totally out to lunch. So yeah, I’m motivated to get a paycheck but not putting any extra pressure on myself to reach my ‘goals’ as they are impossible to achieve here anyways.

@dww. Remember to count your days carefully and don't set your retirement date too early or you'll miss a year of pension accruals. The date for a full year of service is sometime around the end of May. I've seen people retire just weeks before that date and lose a year of pension accruals, and HR and management just keep their mouths shut. Don't give them too much advance notice - maybe about the same amount that they would give you if you were being terminated. Enjoy it!

The only way I’m keeping motivated is knowing that I’m taking an early retirement in 2025. I know that I am very fortunate to be able to do that. Early retirement was not in my plan a year ago but everything has changed and none of it for the better in my opinion. Very sad because I did love my job!

I just click my mouse around when someone walks near me and act overwhelmed when someone asks for a simple task to pretend im busy...i have zero motivation as the work, the leadership, and general polices are a joke at this point, and given how layoffs are rumored to be coming in October (2 managers have now told me) im hoping i will be one of them. Been at the bank for 5 years so ill have possible 10 weeks or so of severance at minimum based on documentation.

It's astounding how leadership isolates themselves. They are so busy with offsites and only meeting with other leaders that they seem completely uninterested in anyone or anything but themselves. I go weeks without seeing my manager, rarely have 1 on 1s, plus my manager's manager has only talked to my team once for 15 minutes in the past five years (we are at the same location btw). But they love to get on these huge conference calls to kiss each other's butts - it's nauseating. This trainwreck of a company is a direct reflection of how poor they are at leading.

There is a severe lack of leadership. They have no clue how poor morale is, and worse, I don't think they care anymore.

AC has made some horrible moves and I think it's just a matter of time before his run is over. He will be leaving a giant mess in his wake.
