Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Exxonmobil looks a lot like Boeing

Cost cutting everywhere, outsourcing technical roles, supervisors patting themselves on the backs, promoting a-s kissers over technical abilities, complete disregard of development & growth… clarity and communication? Never heard of it

When things go wrong who’s left to fix it? The random disconnected tech center engineer sitting 10+ hours ahead? Yeah right…

OP We don't give a fu--k about Exxon. We're there just to collect a juicy paycheck for as long as we can and increase Darren's structural costs as much as we can.

Exxon is a dumpster fire inside of a house fire. Their PIP system promotes people throwing each other under the bus to try and get a higher rating (I was rated at the top, and left partly because I wanted nothing to do with this system). On the R&D side, the culture is absolutely abysmal. Something like 80-90% of people cannot develop an idea to commercialization, and the middle management has no clue. In 2020, they laid off or force retired the majority of their age 55+ employees, many of whom happened to be the most experienced and most knowledgeable. Now, they literally cannot design anything at the commercial scale without going back to these employees for help (many in engineering went to Becht). They're currently relocating their main R&D facility from New Jersey to Houston, which will cause about 50%+ attrition, many of whom are also long-time employees. It's well known that this does not even have a positive effect on finances or operations, it's a power play from management.

At this point, I'm not sure there are many good employees left. Exxon will have to grow via acquisition, which it's already trending towards. If you want to play the games, do nothing useful, and collect a high paycheck, it's the place to go. They're also outsourcing most engineering and projects to asia, so they truly don't care about their culture or quality. I'm sure they can drag this out for another 10+ years, at which point I hope they're overtaken by companies with true leaders that actually innovate.

@ OP "ExxonMobil looks a lot like Boeing" is actually very insulting to Boeing.

At least they know their proverbial A$$ from a hole in the ground................sorry, to inject a little bit of O&G humor.

@zxz Plenty of “doozies” already happened. The tower explosion in Baytown comes to mind, and that was long before “PIP” became part of everybody’s vocabulary.

At least Boeing actually does some engineering. Most of the people here up on their soapboxes about how technical their role is probably couldn’t run any FEA package, let alone design a large passenger jet.

Exxon is a lot more like JP Morgan than it is Boeing: A bunch of entitled upper-middle class whiners who collect posh salaries to do (almost) nothing, yet somehow can’t stop complaining about it.

If the failures and lack of concern / understanding from management I’m seeing on the small stuff are any indication, I fear a doozy is a-coming.

OIMS, what’s that?

Yes another major f up is coming. Cost cutting and lack of moral will lead to this. The turnover rate is high and the new people are not competent. This is a recipe for disaster. I just sit back and watch the show. I was talking to some co workers and they said they did not care about the work anymore. It is apparent how the work force feels now.

OP observations are an excellent overview of the way the company has gone. There will be a serious incident that will arise from the dysfunctional culture and strategy being implemented. Total disregard for integrity means leadership group think rules.

Other question for presidential debate, what they think of CEOs that are making 200X more than their employees?

This is also leading to job “cuts” when companies like XOM see experienced resources as too costly. The elimination of our jobs is just a structural improvement on an oblivious manager’s EADS.

If you are sick of the constant outsourcing of jobs email ABC News at the address below and tell them to ask at the next Presidential debate about the loss of White Collar jobs like IT to India. They hear about it enough then they will ask. Sooner or later all jobs will be in India if we don't stand up:
