Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

New perspective

I was stunned at being laid off after 28 years. However, now I feel like I got the better end of the bargain. So many people still with Canon have said how bad it is now, morale is down, lot more work with less people, no one has a clue what’s happening or if there is any job security. I okay with not dealing with all of that.

Most of us that thought we were lucky in July no longer feel lucky. Everything is such a mess. No guidance from management. No game plan. No structure. Just stress.

Put it to you this way - somebody who was laid off was coming to the Melville office as a guest - they were joining their former teammates for a big group luncheon. This person was turned away by security and told that they were "not allowed on campus under any circumstances." A week later this person received a legal notice telling them with very threatening language that they were not allowed near any Canon campus and to cease further communication with any current Canon employees.

Why are they treating people that they've already wronged like criminals?

Much better off being away from there. Karma has finally caught up with this place. The years of lying to customers, dishonest practices, and breaking contracts has finally come home to roost. Anyone with a conscious is much better off to not be associated with this place.

I have to admit that I was shocked as well when they laid me off as well after 33+ years. Nothing but exemplary performance reviews on all those years, numerous promotions because the teams that I supported all succeeded on numerous levels. They were only looking at the insurance liability costs (old, gray haired people cost more to insure) plus because of tenure and performance we generally are hirer up on the wage scale structure when compared to new entry level hires.
They called me at home and told me "to never step foot on the property again".
And getting a job now is next to impossible at this age.
They always spoke that "you're now part of the Canon family and we'll always be there to support you." They neglected to mention the in---t part (sic).

I agree. Keep watching what happens to the company and you will realize you got the better end of the deal.

That's just them trying to make you feel better. They probably love it
