Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Just quit already

I wish all the people who keep saying they want to quit would finally do it and leave the rest of us to do our jobs in peace. I understand not liking your job, but you have an option that you yourself keep mentioning over and over again. Why in the world are you not taking advantage of it and leaving?

"Why quit when you can ride out the severance and unemployment so you get a break from the stress before jumping back into the workforce?

I waited, prepared, and was glad I did.
It paid off"

Me too. And I loved my job. I also helped some team members land softly.

Xerox will never be a player, because they absolutely refuse to recognize the differences between a VAR and the traditional business.

The prime example is the Compensation Policy (CP) document that is 60 pages filled with the terms and the business cycle of print.

The IT side resells existing products that aren't assembled by Xerox. The CP has no relevance to the IT sales cycle and actually punishes the sales team if they sell too much, too profitably, and expand your business across an enterprise.

Imagine taking money back from a salesperson upto 13 months afterward on items that can't be returned, are successfully installed, and have been paid for by the customer.

The document is so counter-productive to the IT sales cycle, it seems designed to cause discontent and reduce both revenue and profit.

It's just a completely mo--nic attempt at standardized processes so HCL or TCS can easily create payroll. Unfortunately, it will drive successful and tenured IT sales team to other VAR's that reward and encourage profitable, long-term account growth behaviors.

If you like your work then why preemptively quit? Print is changing but won't completely go away anytime soon. Best advice is if you enjoy your job then keep doing it and doing it well. If you get cut you'll land on your feet somewhere else. There have been a lot of people who have left then tried to come back so it can't be all that bad compared to other employers.

Zerox will never be a player in IT because they are too stupid to learn from their own mistakes. Keep outsourcing to Guatemala because that's were all the smart people live. Ha!

I agree, listening to that cr-p is annoying & more energy surely spent in efforts to leave. The job market is weaker right now and Covid was the best time to leave but not in a full blown recession yet so there’s still down. If u wait any longer to leave your job will surely be outsourced the leadership has made it quite clear with their actions

The issue is that most people at Xerox don't realize that they have any transferrable skills. It takes revamping your resume and dipping your toes in to realize that you do. Many have had long careers with Xerox and the change of the job application landscape since last stepping out there has been astronomical. You can fill out 100 applications and get nothing. But ex-Xerox people are the best contacts. People that know you, can help you get your foot in the door. So it's not as easy as telling people to "just leave." Change is hard. It's even harder when you're older or you actually really like your job. I loved my job at Xerox. I made life-long friends there. But the stress of them cutting jobs every quarter was too much to bear. I never got cut thankfully but people can't really thrive wondering if or when the axe is going to fall.

Many have left. How can you do your job in peace when you know you have less than a year left? Reimagine is imaginary. Reimagine yourself working for HCL until your knowledge is transferred.
