Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

How do I know I'm save?

At one point in time, managers will send out 1:1 invites.

If it's like in the previous layoff, it will be around 7:00am on Mon Sep 16. For other layoffs I remember, 1:1s have been sent out on a Sat for a Mon 1:1.

Starting Sat Sep 14, I intend to monitor my manager's outlook calendar for Monday. If I see 15 min invites, and I did not get one at the same time, then I will conclude I'm save.

I don't think I have any other things to do on the weekend preceding the layoff announcement.

You are 'save' depending on how much money you SAVEd. If you didn't SAVE anything they you're not 'save'.

If you can’t tell the difference between “safe” and “save”, you probably fine. You weren’t hired for intelligence.

The interview bar at cisco is very low. That's why you, me and all the rest of us are on this board.

English is the lingua franca of the Internet. I feel pity for native speakers as everyone is butchering their language. Do you prefer us writing in our native languages? You will miss out a lot of information and that's why we are here.

As long as there are annual LR's at Cisco, no one is safe unless they are in ELT.

OP is a native Arabic speaker. In Arabic, there is no "V", so any word with a "V" in it is pronounced as an "F". Example: Video is pronounced as "Fideo", Safe=Save, Life=Live, etc.

There are hints that you are on the chopping block. Manager may suddenly start acting differently with you. Eg. Ask you for more details about your work (when they didn’t before) or vice versa. Or not include you in a meeting on a future project whereas you would have been before.

There is no safety in today's job market. I hope you are near retirement age so you don't have to deal with it much longer. If not, you're going to have to maintain a marketable resume and live enough under your means that you don't end up stuck somewhere. Good luck!

No one knows if they are safe, this time. The leaders are not sharing any info this time, whereas in the past they have said if we are safe or not.
This time, they are just saying that they have signed an NDA and Cisco has made sure that they remember that they have signed one.
So Sept 16 is when most people will know. Unless you are extremely lucky and your director and manager violate the NDA.

They do not always send out 1on1 invites. I was laid off with Cisco before and my bosses boss just called me. It was a short scripted compassionless call. My advice is to control what you can and focus on that.. "resume prep, networking, etc"

If you are in HR, you are safe. If not then you're not safe. LRs bring job security to HR professionals at Cisco - just look at how happy they are in the Cisco Beat and Check-In chats.

You will know you are “save” when you improve your English. All the post by this “Cisco geek” have atrocious English language skills. How did this guy get through the interview process ? No wonder Cisco is in such sh!t.

Are you worried you can't get a job outside of Cisco? If you have the skills and network you should be able to find a job even in this market. What is really wanting you to be at Cisco ?
