Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

I gave up

I couldn’t do it anymore. I put in my 2 weeks. No job lined up. I needed to get away from this because my anxiety has been off the roof.

It’s about costs but the ELT gave themselves a raise while destroying lives of others

Total gangster move. You’re a badda$$.

You’ll be so much happier. Posters saying Cisco doesn’t care is irrelevant. You just made yourself relevant for future opportunity.

You no longer are working in a rotting whale. Congrats!

Cisco is a cult. The people who are no longer there recognize that after they decompress.

Take one month VTO. You now get unlimited vacation, if they don't like it they will put you on an LR list and you will be paid to leave.

Does anyone reading this actually believe anyone , anyone, in management from LM to VP care if you are well or not, guess how many su----es have happened over the stress and LRs , I know of 3 personally, why they installed the wellness programs for CYA. Take the money while you can and do whatever you want, wont matter on your review, just kiss butt and smile like an id--t on video, easy peasy.

I get money is essential but your life is more important. You need to reset.

It has been very rough for us all.

You did the right thing. I took the pandemic package a few years ago...It su-ked because my idntity was stuck in Cisco mode ..but now looking back it was the best thing...better pay .. better health...it works out...just give yourself a break. Good luck.

OP’s mental health is way more important than a job. I don’t blame them cutting ties completely with Cisco.

"It's about COSTS. Maybe you should listen when the ELT tell you that?"

It's about relationships. There are plenty of people at Cisco making enormous amount of money adding little value. You need strategic relationships to survive annual layoffs.

It's about redundant roles and not about required roles.

Wow - somebody gulped the Kool-aid (TM)

Workers should be allowed to volunteer to be LR’ed

Cisco had to make this mistake not once but twice with early retirement to figure out the obvious: paying a year's salary to give your best resources to your competitors is a stupid idea because the people who took it already had their next job lined up.

It also turns out that the act of asking makes it clear to management you'll likely go away for free which is further incentive not to pay you.

At least in the US if you're an employee at will you are owed nothing when they terminate you, so as cruel as it sounds, be happy that you get what you get.

I hope if you are married then you discussed with your partner. More so if you have kids. Can't put a momentary lapse of anxiety over future. Every corporate job is and will be the same for the foreseeable future

It's about redundant roles and not about required roles. That request makes no sense at all. Like 99% of all posts here.

I honestly couldn’t take it anymore . The politics, backbiting were to the roof . You don’t have to play so dirty , it’s just a job at end of day . 3 days into LR am already mentally better. Focusing my efforts on finding a new job than keep going through the toxic sh-t day in and day out .

I know a few folks who did that a few years ago due to bad leadership. Good luck to you

I can't tell you how much I have wanted to do the same. I was really hoping to be affected by the LR. If I could have volunteered to take someone else's place, I would have signed up.

Hope you're independently wealthy. Getting a tech job that doesn't underpay is brutal right now.

You know you could have gone on disability most likely and kept getting paid. Maybe do that before it’s too late

Why? Just do no work and collect checks until someone calls you out. Get paid to watch HBO.

Good luck, you have your reasons. Have no regrets and things will work out. No job is worth it when you are that miserable.
