Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

I vote technology field employment "officially" a commodity

As someone who has been working on this $hit for now thirty plus years; I hereby declare "technology worker" is now officially finally commoditized globally for 2024. Doesn't matter if you make McDonalds french fries or sit in front of a PC all day, pinging little chit-chat messages on your current project of woe; it is all the same assembly line cr@p.

The answer? There is no answer. Glad I am an old f@rt and was luckily in the right place at the right time for this three decade plus sh1tshow of worldwide tech innovations. Right. If I were in my twenties or thirties working, I would do the bare minimum and try to enjoy life as much as I can.

I think sh1t is going to get much worse in not only tech, but everything job related. Sorry also my generation of crusty politicians and elders who complain "the younger generation has no work ethic" ruined it for you.

It is not you younger folks; we old fools trashed it all.

You have to run fast in the tech I dustry to stay relevant.

There is a lot of legacy work in the world that no competent engineer would consider doing and people who can only do small things poorly take on that work. Look at how much of Cisco's development budget went to bug fixing and how poor the products still are, and it's just one of many legacy companies in the same boat.

Maybe the solution is to look for stable government jobs with a pension? The corporate world is no longer sustainable for family-oriented people.

Listen up. Let me remind you folks of something…… You can be very dead tomorrow. Hopefully not but you could be. Maybe in 50 years. The point is you should be living your life with your loved ones, not giving your all to corporate America only to be LRd anyway. Do what you have to and not lift a finger more. More fool you if you do.

I am a crusty boomer; but relate much more with folks in their twenties and thirties. Me and the old crusty crew; plus our old ancient parents (many of them still amazingly still healthy plus 80 years old), seem to have wrecked it for good. If you youngsters think us 50+ year olds are f00ls, you should sit down for a good chat with someone late 70s/early 80s, and listen to them b1tch about the world...the world our generations wrecked with debt and entitlements. Sorry, it su-ks; and to make it worse for you, our collective pile of entitled do-nothingness will be around much longer; because of good medication, to drain the system more and more.
