Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

People need to stop stressing

For your own mental health. Right this moment, you are safe. No, it's not over for good but it is over for now. We just went through many stressful weeks that have taken their toll on every single one of us. If you don't let yourself relax and recharge your batteries, it's only a matter of time before you break. It's over for now. Take advantage of it while it lasts.

Not to minimize the emotional toll layoffs have on people and orgs, but the reality is companies expect loyalty from their employees and give none in return. Part of coping is accepting that and realizing that you are the CEO of your own career. Approach any job as an opportunity to learn new skills, expand your knowledge, network with others, because you will need to use that in your next job. Once you have topped out on this, it is a sign that you need to move to another position or company. This way you are at least mentally prepared for the new reality, that at least in the US you are an at will employee and that notice could come at any time, not just during large LRs

Working in companies where regular layoffs occur is always a stress. Particularly when you do not know why you were chosen, makes it worse. The standard explanation, often is, this has nothing to do with your performance, and you may know that too, but does that help? No, it does not. It actually makes it worse.

So, for your mental health, do you think it's healthy to keep going through the same cycle every 6 months? By the time youve recharged your batteries, it's going to be drained again. Stop the madness. End the cycle.
There are far better companies out there that don't do layoffs every 6 months.
