Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Managers worried about losing your jobs.

Take a craft job (union) guaranteed job security , better pay, better insurance and will keep it when you retire , pension with yearly increases , will not have to worry about RTO , work in same town where you live, if you work ot you get paid , time and a half for the first 8 hours then double time after that, guaranteed pay raises every year. If you don’t care about what other people think of you and are not worried about your “status “ in life , stay under the radar, you will stay here for 30 plus years. if you live below your means you will retire in your late fifties as a multi millionaire. I did it, and live stress free and enjoy life.

My L3 total compensation shakes out to about $180 per hour for three days in the office with 28 PTO days, 10 holidays, sick days and caregiver days if needed. We get education benefits, free legal services, medical, life, etc. Not bad at all. I think I'm doing just fine in management.

Craft can make a lot of ot, has 30 PTO days all of the other benefits you listed except insurance is better and cheaper and gets to keep the insurance when they retire. I think I’m doing just fine in craft.

Be a second class wire tech.

Don’t do that, it is the worst job in the company next to a DT which is essentially the same thing just more pay.

isnt the pay like 25-40 hr? that’s kinda meh
Wage scale 32 is 52 at end of contract, remember the time and a half from 41 -48 hours double time after 48 hours . Pension and health care when you retire. When you retire is the biggie so over the course of 30 plus years a union guy will make a heck of a lot more than a manager that has a 2-3 year life span or what ever it is . Just trying to use economics 101 on that one.

You must have missed the 19 office assistants off payroll on 12/28.

Yeah all the mean old ladies with 45-55 years service that will get 90 weeks termination pay , if they don’t find another opening.

It is significantly harder to get a union technician job than a management job at AT&T. At this point you would have to know someone or have a family connection. Stop acting like you earned all those ridiculous benefits and concessions rather than acquired them by force using racketeering tactics and good-ole-boy connections.

Yep. Seeing these management rats scurrying about has been great. Guaranteed, platinum level job security. Almost 2 years pay if I get surplussed and want to leave. Not bad.

Did strike duty in prior years and now I am retired. I wouldn't take that job over my management job for any amount of money. The three days that I worked in Cleveland was a total s..show. Really hot climbing poles, tornado came thru and downed a bunch of poles ( We were driving in it trying to get back to the garage), dog cr-p in customer basements, wasp nests in cross boxes, dr-g dealers on the corners of the streets with look outs. That job has got to take a lot of years off your life!

And then don't ever, ever tell your brothers and sisters where you used to work...

Guaranteed job until there are workforce reductions and you don’t have enough tenure and that assumes you can find a job in the first place because unions reduce the employment rate
