That article is pure PR spin. Arvind seems to be making the rounds with New York politicians lately. First with Hochul, now Schumer’s project. Hochul attended the opening of One Madison, then he fired thousands of people a week later. Tax breaks much?
The numbers in the article are very specific. It says IBM will pay an annual rent of $930,000 for the new space. That’s just under a million, and a drop in the bucket for IBM, but probably just enough to pay to play. They would make money in tax savings even if they left it empty.
It says they will hire “150 to 299” new employees in Albany, of all places, which is nothing and also seems like an oddly specific, carefully worded number. It’s probably the allowable number to bring in H1Bs from India without triggering scrutiny.
It seems there have been layoffs at the Albany site this week
