Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Unions Look what Boeing offer is

Boeing had made offer of 30 percent increase over 4 years and 6000 dollar ratification bonus . Over 4 years they will go from 70,000 plus a year to 111,000 plus a year. They are even paying higher annual production bonuses Now that is holding out and making the company appreciate its employees ! We continue to work with less and pushed to higher levels with little reward . It’s time to make a stand and force the company to appreciate its employees

@6dzq your not an engineer, your a up manager who is mad that labor relations and HR need a way to get people to work for less. First off remember railroads have always done 2 things. First they've always wanted employees who were smart enough to be trained but d-mb enough to never question management. The 2nd is the railroads traditionally have overpaid the agreement employees when they first start their careers but after those employees learn their craft those employees are woefully undercompensated for the rest of their careers. The trades and crafts which railroading is part of are about to go thru a much over due renaissance in appreciation. A REAL mind of a good engineer would easily understand skill, knowledge, and ability is worthy and wether those assets were obtained in a classroom, a laboratory, or a switching yard doesn't negate their value. You want a lesson on ROI in railroading? You want to witness the value of frontline railroaders? Let the railroaders strike. Don't allow the govt to order railroaders back to work. Let managers lock out railroad employees, let management get people from the "public" who you say are watching all this to operate the railroad. Your right on managers being overpaid. If a manager can't perform every task that every employee does then those managers should make less money or not even be here.

Holy cr-p, that's a lot of money. I used to work for UP in the mechanical department until my 2nd layoff in 2019. I took the opportunity to use my GI bill and got my engineering degree. I now have a great job with a great company.

Thing is, as an engineer, I get paid around what a manager makes at UP. With the proposed pay hikes listed, craft workers will end up making considerably more than most senior level engineers. I do realize entry level engineers get paid low but that's because they are still learning. Senior engineers, on the other hand, have years (at least 5+ in their discipline) of knowledge and experience behind them.

I'm not trying t demean anyone's job here but really wonder what the rational is that someone who has zero advanced education is deserving of a six figure salary when other companies pay considerably less for the same job. My question also applies to UP management as quite a lot of them have zero formal training yet get paid so much more than their peers in other industries. I'm comparing apples to apples here. From the outside looking in, this is not a good look for the general public to see.

I know everyone will aim their vitrol toward my comments. I just don't see the ROI with the railroad workforce.

And only one wiener at a time, y’all are reminding this manager of all my ex wives. Think everything in life is a buffet that I should pay for but then I only get whats left over, darn ingrates.

Listen up mr Im licensed, I am a UP manager, get it! You do what I tell you to do! I will find a CBT, assign to you the CBT, and then you will be qualified to do whatever I tell you to do for as long as I tell you to do it. And another thing, if I tell you to work past 12hrs dont be stupid and report that on your hours of service. Just do what I tell you and then do what your supposed to do on paper. That is how we will win together. Stop arguing w/ us managers. The only time you are supposed to challenge us is after you follow instructions and if there is an accident. Then you can say you were supposed to evoke your right to challenge. But only in the investigation are you guys to ever say that. That way its always your fault and I still get my bonus.

As a UP manager I am tired of all the whining and complaining. Unions, contracts, people saying thats not my job. Just the other day I signed a contract to have the roof on my house replaced. On the very 1st day they started working I told the roofers to wash my car, mow my lawn, and pick up the dog p-o. They sounded just like railroad employees “thats not my job”. Well da---t as long as I am paying you, your job is to do whatever I tell you! Those lazy S-B’s pulled out the contract for the roof, we argued for an hour, I gave them a stern coaching, then they must be on strike bcuz they havent come back since. You guys need to stop complaining, your whining is making other people stand up to me and I dont like it.

Two ENG maybe but not 1MC until they can justify gutting the FRA regulation. And if it's 2PC ENG only we all get pulled up... so it's a wash numbers wise and you simultaneously made two unions into one...with a singular goal. Good work!

Pretty much every time I've been called out to a train to help with a problem the conductor was asleep in their chair without a care in the world.

Yep.. They don’t even walk their own trains anymore.. They’ve cut their own throats

Im w/ @1uxu leave the unions alone. They have a hard enough job doing everything the managers at tell them to do. Then they have to turn around and put on a show to the agreement employees that they are fighting for and protecting the contract. Those kinds of acting skills are far and few between. Poor guys travel all the time, staying in nicer hotels than agreement employees do when they’re at work. Eating at high end restaurants that far exceed the eating allowances the agreement guys get. Look at how hard having union meetings has become, they cant even buy you a meal now w/ your own money. The meetings are now online. C’mon what do you expect? The individuals who represent the workers cant be expected to live at the same socio economic level as those said workers? Thats crazy!

Instead of complaining for your entire career—simple solution— go work for Boeing

Wow look at all that money! It means nothing with out of control inflation due to poor leadership. If we don’t get some leaders elected who will quit spending it doesn’t matter how much the raise is, we’re all going to be broke!
