California sues ExxonMobil, alleging deception about plastics recycling

  • California Attorney General Rob Bonta is suing ExxonMobil, alleging the company misled consumers into believing that recycling was a viable solution for plastic waste.
  • "Exxon Mobil knew that 95% of the plastic in the blue bin was going to be incinerated, go into the environment or go into a landfill," Bonta told NBC News.
  • The lawsuit represents a new avenue in the legal fight to hold fossil fuel companies responsible for pollution.

It throws red meat to their voters. That’s a fantastic investment when it’s also the voters’ own money!

@mui Not (totally) disagreeing with you, but filing a lawsuit against a huge corporation in any court is very expensive. There’s also no guarantee of success. Not a good way to raise money from where I’m standing.

Stupid lawsuit. So if we tricked people why are people still buying plastic now that the “truth” is out. No merit.

IMHO, the lawsuit has nothing to do with protecting the environment. California state budget deficits remain out of control due to their inept policies, so they try "creative" ways to raise revenue. More taxation doesn't work anymore because people are fleeing the state because of it.
